Chapter 97 - The Sister’s Severance: The Cold Truth Behind the Blood Ties

Claire vaulted up the stairs behind Dante, leaving Miller to guard the heavy blast door below. As she reached the upper gallery, Vivienne drew a serrated titanium combat blade from her waist, her face twisted in manic fury.

"You took everything that was meant for me!" Vivienne snarled, lunging forward with blinding speed. "I was raised in the dark! I was trained to endure the neural link while you played nursemaid in a civilian hospital!"

Claire pivoted, deflecting the blade with the reinforced barrel of her empty rifle. The steel sparked as the blade cleaved through the weapon's polymer frame. Claire discarded the ruined firearm, ducking beneath a lethal horizontal slash that sliced clean through her shoulder strap.

"You were a victim, Vivienne!" Claire yelled, parrying a backhand strike with her forearm and driving a sharp knee into her twin's ribs. "Look at him! He doesn't care about you! You're just another component to be discarded!"

"I am the successor!" Vivienne screamed, recovering instantly and driving Claire back against the armored console.

The blade came down, inches from Claire’s throat. Claire caught Vivienne’s wrist with both hands, muscles straining as the razor-sharp edge hovered a fraction of an inch from her jugular.

Right below them, strapped against Claire’s chest, baby Leo looked up into Vivienne’s face.

The child didn't emit a weaponized frequency. He didn't summon an electronic pulse. Instead, with the simple, innocent curiosity of an infant, Leo reached up a single, soft, chubby hand, and touched Vivienne’s cheek.

The assassin froze.

The touch was warm, soft, and entirely devoid of malice. For a second—a single, fragile heartbeat—the murderous glaze in Vivienne’s eyes cracked. A memory, long buried beneath layers of chemical conditioning and syndicate torture, surfaced behind her gaze: the scent of wild jasmine, a mother's gentle hand, a quiet room far away from the cold steel of the laboratories.

A tear spilled down Vivienne’s cheek, cutting through the soot and gunpowder.

"Claire..." Vivienne whispered, her grip on the knife loosening.
