Chapter 59 - The Sovereign Will: Dante Moretti Signed Away His Entire Empire for One Child’s Heartbeat

The rain turned to sleet, lashing against the concrete docks like needles of ice.

Dante Moretti stepped forward, putting himself directly between the woman with his dead wife’s face and the woman who carried his child. He lowered his shotgun, letting it hang loosely in his right hand, his posture transforming from a soldier under siege into the undisputed sovereign king of the underworld.

"Five years," Dante said, his voice flat, dangerously quiet, and vibrating with an icy menace that made Evelyn’s elite commandos tighten their grips on their weapons. "Five years I poured millions into charitable foundations in your name. Five years I burned entire cartels to the ground because they dared to mention the crash that took you from me."

Evelyn tilted her head, her sapphire eyes gleaming with faint mockery. "Business, Dante. You were useful to the Syndicate. Your shipping routes moved forty percent of our experimental components across the Atlantic without customs inspection. But a woman of my standing doesn't stay married to a common gangster."

"You're right," Dante said softly. "You're not a gangster's wife. You're a corpse that hasn't realized it's dead yet."

Evelyn’s smirk faltered slightly at the utter lack of fear in Dante’s eyes.

"Kill him," Evelyn ordered her lead commando, flicking her wrist in dismissal. "Take the child. Leave my sister alive so she can watch us initiate the second phase."

"Wait!" Dante’s voice cut through the air like a whip.

From the inner pocket of his shredded suit jacket, Dante produced a thick, gold-embossed leather folder tied with a crimson ribbon. He held it out into the beam of the helicopter floodlight.

"What is that?" Evelyn asked, her eyes narrowing suspiciously.

"The Moretti Sovereign Will," Dante stated, his gaze unblinking. "Before the power grid went dark, I executed the Lazarus Clause through my private Swiss servers. Every offshore account, every deep-water container terminal in Rotterdam, Singapore, and New York, every defense contract held by Moretti Aerospace... four hundred billion dollars in untraceable, liquid assets."

Evelyn’s breath caught in her throat. The commandos behind her exchanged subtle, tense glances. The Syndicate was powerful, but four hundred billion dollars was enough to buy sovereign nations, fund private armies, and control global currency markets.

"The assets are locked behind a dead-man's key," Dante continued, his voice steady as iron. "If my heart stops beating tonight, the entire network self-destructs. The accounts are wiped, the container ships scuttle themselves at sea, and the defense contracts are transferred directly to the United States Department of Defense with full unredacted files on Project Leviathan."

"You're bluffing," Evelyn hissed, though her fingers twitched nervously against her holster.

"Try me," Dante growled, taking another step closer to her rifle barrels. "You know me, Sofia. Or Evelyn, or whatever devil you call yourself. You know I don't bluff. I will burn every cent, every ship, and every man I own into ash before I let you touch this boy."

Dante tossed the leather folder onto the wet concrete at Evelyn’s feet.

"The biometric key to release the funds is linked to a single terminal," Dante said. "Right here. Right now. You leave Claire and the boy with me, and the four hundred billion is yours. You have the money to build your new world order without ever needing Leviathan again."

Evelyn looked down at the gold-embossed folder. Greed and ambition flickered across her beautiful, twisted face. She looked at Dante, then at Claire, and finally at baby Leo, who was staring at her with an unnervingly cold, ancient intelligence in his infant eyes.

"You really would give up an entire empire for a child who isn't even fully human?" Evelyn asked, genuinely astonished.

"He is my son," Dante said simply. "And unlike you, he knows what loyalty means."

Evelyn knelt slowly, picking up the heavy folder with her gloved hand. She opened the seal, inspecting the emergency cryptographic keys embedded within the parchment. A slow, triumphant smile spread across her lips.

"A fair trade, Dante," Evelyn whispered, stepping back toward the descent platform of the Chinook helicopter. "A king's ransom for a broken family."

She gave a hand signal to her commandos. The men began to slowly retreat toward the loading ramp, their weapons still aimed at Dante’s chest.

"Claire," Evelyn called out over the roar of the idling helicopter turbines. "A word of advice from one sister to another."

Claire didn't lower her weapon. "Speak, traitor."

"Check his heart rate," Evelyn smiled, her voice dripping with cruel satisfaction. "You really thought the cipher was just a download? It's a bio-synthetic overload, darling. Without the stabilization serum that I have in this case... your precious little nephew's heart will burst before sunrise."
