Chapter 74 - The Ghost Fleet's Horizon: The Sky Tore Open Above Long Island Sound

With a brutal, downward jerk, Dante incapacitated the operative, letting the limp body slump onto the shattered glass. He retrieved the fallen soldier’s encrypted tactical radio, clicking the frequency toggle twice.

Through the earpiece, a calm, patrician voice cut through the static with chilling familiarity.

*"Fireteam Alpha, confirm payload acquisition. The carrier group is in position off Montauk. We have satellite lock on the primary asset. If the Moretti dog resists, scrub the perimeter with white phosphorus. Do not damage the infants' spinal columns."*

Claire stood frozen, the vest cinched tight across her chest, an assault rifle gripped securely in her hands. "That's... that's Admiral Vance. My uncle. He was supposed to have retired after the Pacific crisis ten years ago."

"He didn't retire," Valeria whispered, struggling to sit up against the base of the crib, her voice barely an audible rattle. "He built the Directorate using Pentagon black-funds and your father's old shipping routes, Dante. The entire syndicate... the Moretti empire... was just a front to fund the construction of the Leviathan platform."

Dante threw the radio onto the floor and crushed it beneath his combat boot. "He made one mistake."

Claire looked at him, seeing the terrifying transformation in the man before her. The billionaire had vanished. In his place stood the ruthless capo who had inherited an empire built on fire and blood, now magnified by the protective fury of a father.

"What mistake?" Claire asked.

"He thought I relied on the public grid," Dante said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a heavy, titanium key with an encrypted biometric interface. He walked toward the far corner of the nursery, stepping in front of an ornamental marble bust of a Roman emperor. He pushed the bust aside, revealing an analog dial buried within the load-bearing stone.

He turned the dial three clicks right, one click left, and shoved the titanium key into the central slot.

Deep within the bedrock beneath the Potomac, a subterranean engine hummed to life. The entire safehouse vibrated as a heavy industrial platform began rising behind the bookshelf.

"When I bought this estate four years ago," Dante said without looking back, "I didn't just build a nursery. I built an evacuation corridor that leads directly into the old Civil War flood tunnels running beneath the Navy Yard. And at the end of that tunnel sits something the Pentagon forgot they lost during the Cold War."

"What did they lose, Dante?" Claire demanded, gently lifting both infants, securing them against her chest in a dual tactical harness designed for high-stress extraction.

Dante pulled a combat shotgun from the rack, racking the slide with a thunderous *clack*.

"An Ohio-class nuclear submarine," Dante said, his lips curling into a feral, merciless smirk. "And it belongs to me."
