Chapter 83 - Flight Through the Atlantic Maelstrom: The Ghost Interceptor

"Drop the cargo, Commander!" a voice roared through the exhaust roar of the flooding dock.
It was one of Vance’s surviving shadow lieutenants, his face smeared with grease and soot, desperate to secure the infants for Salvatore's bounty. The rocket launcher was locked on their steel platform. At this range, the explosion would disintegrate all of them.
Dante didn’t hesitate. He thrust Claire behind the thick rim of the armored pressure door and hurled his empty submachine gun straight into the exhaust port of the high-voltage turbine overhead.
A catastrophic arc of blue electricity cascaded down the conduit. The electrical discharge flashed through the catwalk railing, violently shocking the operative. The rocket discharged prematurely, slamming into the concrete ceiling of the moon pool and raining tons of pulverized debris into the foaming water below.
"Jump!" Dante roared.
Claire threw her arms around both boys, curling her body into a protective human shield, and leaped into the abyss.
They hit the icy water hard, the freezing Atlantic shock threatening to tear the breath from Claire’s lungs. But Dante was already beside her, his powerful arms hauling her up onto the rubberized pontoon of the Black Ghost interceptor. Claire dragged herself aboard, immediately checking the boys. Protected by the hermetic seal of their tactical harnesses, both infants were dry, their violet glow dimming back to a quiet, subterranean pulse.
Dante scrambled into the cockpit, slamming his fist onto the ignition sequence. The twin turbine engines shrieked to life, their muffled roar echoing off the drowning bulkheads.
"Hold on!" Dante yelled, throttling the twin jet-drives forward.
The reinforced prow of the interceptor slammed into the hydro-dock’s emergency blast gate. The rusted iron bent, buckled, and sheared away under twelve thousand horsepower of military thrust. With a sickening jolt that knocked Claire against the passenger bulkhead, the craft tore through the breach and erupted into the open, storm-lashed waters of the North Atlantic.
Behind them, the massive warship sank into the churning black depths, a funeral pyre of steam, fire, and twisting iron.
Rain slammed against the reinforced windshield like machine-gun fire. Thirty-foot swells tossed the interceptor like a matchstick. Above them, lightning carved jagged white scars across the obsidian clouds.
Claire collapsed against the jump seat, cradling both babies against her racing heart. Leo reached up with his tiny, chubby fingers, his hand brushing against the bloody, mud-spattered name tag still pinned to Claire’s tactical vest: *CLAIRE VANCE - SPECIAL OPS NURSE.*
As the child touched the plastic credential, a sharp chirp sounded from the interceptor’s navigational console.
The autopilot engaged on its own. The steering yoke ripped out of Dante’s hands, locking hard to the northeast, into the dead center of the swirling hurricane.
"I don't have control!" Dante shouted, wrestling the manual overrides to no avail. "The navigational computer is slaved to an external encrypted beacon!"
On the GPS display, a string of coordinates materialized, followed by a chilling line of green text:
