Chapter 80 - The Zero-Point Protocol: The Final Countdown Froze at 00:01 as the True Master Removed His Mask

The surface of the Atlantic exploded into utter chaos.

The Vanguard flagship listed violently to its port side, smoke and fire pouring from its ruptured engine compartment. Secondary explosions tore through its auxiliary fuel tanks, illuminating the storm-tossed waves in terrifying shades of crimson and orange.

Through the pod's periscope camera, Claire watched Dante’s submarine unleash its own fury. The torpedo tubes opened, slamming two heavy wire-guided warheads into the hulls of the flanking destroyers. The Moretti loyalists were fighting like demons unleashed from the depths.

Claire blew the pod's ballast tanks, surging to the surface directly beneath the shadow of the burning flagship.

"Valeria, watch the boys," Claire ordered, grabbing two suppressed assault rifles from the survival locker and racking the bolts. "If anything approaches this hatch that doesn't have Dante's voice, blow the scuttle charges."

"Claire, you can't board that ship alone!" Valeria shouted over the roar of distant artillery.

"I’m not alone," Claire said, her eyes blazing with diamond-hard resolve. "I have five hundred rounds of armor-piercing ammunition and twenty years of payback."

She popped the top hatch, stepping out into the freezing, rain-swept Atlantic gale.

Using an automated grappling launcher, Claire fired a titanium hook onto the carrier’s lower catwalk, hoisting herself up the sheer steel side of the burning vessel like an avenging ghost. She moved through the smoke-filled corridors with lethal speed, dropping three mercenary guards before they could raise their weapons, her boots tracking red through the puddles of salt water and diesel fuel.

She kicked open the heavy blast doors to the carrier’s auxiliary command bridge.

Inside, Dante was already there.

He was kneeling on one knee, blood streaming down his left temple, his empty sidearm lying on the deck three feet away. Standing over him, a gold-plated combat pistol pressed against Dante’s forehead, was Admiral Vance.

"Claire," Vance sneered, turning his scarred, weather-beaten face toward her, his finger tightening on the trigger. "You’re just in time to watch the empire fall. Drop the weapon, niece, or his brains become part of the bulkhead."

Claire raised her rifle, centering the crosshairs directly between her uncle's eyes. "Let him go, Vance. The carrier is sinking. Your ghost fleet is burning. It’s over."

"Over?" Vance laughed, a dry, insane cackle that chilled Claire’s blood. "My dear girl... you still think I’m the one giving the orders?"

Vance reached up with his free hand and tapped an encrypted video monitor mounted to the bridge bulkhead.

The static on the screen cleared.

The man sitting in the high-backed leather chair on the video feed was not a general, nor was he an admiral. He was dressed in an impeccably tailored navy suit, sipping vintage scotch from a crystal tumbler. On his left lapel was a silver pin shaped like a serpent swallowing its own tail—the ancient, long-forgotten crest of the founding Moretti syndicate.

Dante’s breath caught in his throat, his eyes widening in sheer, unadulterated horror.

"Impossible," Dante choked out, his voice shaking for the first time in his life. "You died... you died twenty-five years ago in the Palermo bombing."

The elderly man on the screen lowered his glass, his piercing hazel eyes—the exact same eyes as Dante and little Leo—locking straight onto Claire’s frozen face.

"A king never dies, Dante," the old man whispered through the speaker, a sinister, terrifying smile spreading across his wrinkled face. "He merely steps into the shadows until his grandchildren are strong enough to inherit the throne. Now, Claire... tell me: which one of my grandsons did you bring to me?"

Behind Claire, the bridge elevator doors hissed open.

Standing inside the elevator was a squad of four masked operatives—and wrapped in their arms, kicking and screaming with terrifying violet light pouring from his chest, was baby Leo.
