Chapter 1 - The Wrath of the Hidden Titan

The silence in the grand hallway was heavier than lead.

Daniel Bennett stood with his hands resting gently on the handles of his mother’s wheelchair.

Every single guest in the corridor avoided his gaze because his eyes burned with an icy, terrifying intensity.

Maya Collins wiped a stray drop of champagne from her apron, wondering if she was about to be arrested or sued.

The hotel general manager wiped cold sweat from his forehead as he bowed slightly toward Daniel.

“Mr. Bennett, we are so deeply sorry for this unthinkable disturbance,” the manager stammered with shaking lips.

“You are sorry?” Daniel’s voice was dangerously low, vibrating through the marble floor like distant thunder.

“We are handling Mrs. Ashford right now in the administrative office, sir,” the manager said, desperately trying to salvage his job.

Daniel did not look at the manager; his gaze remained fixed on his mother’s swollen, reddened cheek.

Eleanor reached up with trembling, fragile fingers and touched her son’s clenched fist.

“Daniel, my boy, breathe,” Eleanor whispered softly.

“She put her hands on you, Mother,” Daniel said, his knuckles turning pure white.

“And this brave young woman took the blow for my dignity,” Eleanor replied, pointing her frail hand toward Maya.

Daniel slowly turned his gaze toward Maya, studying her worn shoes and her dignified posture.

“Why did you do it, Maya?” Daniel asked softly, his tone shifting from fury to profound reverence.

“Because nobody deserves to be treated like garbage, sir,” Maya replied without hesitation.

“Do you know who Victoria Ashford is?” Daniel asked.

“I know she has a lot of money and a terrible soul,” Maya answered honestly.

A faint, dark smile touched Daniel’s lips for a fraction of a second.

“Her money will not protect her tonight,” Daniel murmured.

Suddenly, high heels clicked aggressively down the marble hallway.

Victoria Ashford marched out of the manager's suite, followed by two flustered private security guards.

Her hair was disheveled, but her sneer was as sharp and venomous as ever.

“I am calling my husband this instant!” Victoria shrieked, waving her diamond-encrusted phone in the air.

“You do that, Victoria,” Daniel said, his voice cutting through her screech like a razor.

Victoria stopped dead in her tracks, narrowing her mascara-stained eyes at Daniel.

“Who do you think you are, ordering people around in my social circle?” she spat.

“You should ask your husband who owns the commercial paper on Ashford Maritime,” Daniel replied coolly.

Victoria froze, a flicker of confusion crossing her haughty features.

“You’re bluffing, you pathetic nobody,” she hissed, though her voice lacked its earlier certainty.

“Call Richard,” Daniel said calmly.

Victoria scoffed, hitting speed dial on her phone and pressing it tightly against her ear.

“Richard, get down here right now!” she screamed into the receiver.

“Some filthy waitress attacked me, and a lunatic in a cheap suit is threatening our family!” she yelled.

The entire hallway held its breath as Victoria waited for her husband’s furious response.

Over the speaker, the panicked voice of Richard Ashford echoed loudly enough for the manager to hear.

“Victoria, where are you right now?” Richard demanded in a voice thick with terror.

“I am outside the grand ballroom at the St. Regis!” she shouted back.

“Did you just assault someone in a wheelchair?” Richard’s voice cracked in absolute panic.

“She insulted my status, Richard!” Victoria argued back, refusing to back down.

“Shut up! Shut your mouth right now!” Richard roared through the phone.

“Richard, how dare you—”

“Do you have any idea whose mother you just touched?” Richard screamed, his breath ragged.

Victoria’s hand began to shake as she glanced back toward Daniel.

“He’s just some arrogant guest—”

“That is Daniel Bennett, the principal chairman of the Bennett Global Consortium!” Richard bellowed.

The diamond phone nearly slipped from Victoria’s fingers onto the hard marble.

The hotel manager took three steps backward, his face turning completely gray.

Maya’s eyes widened in sheer astonishment as the reality of the situation washed over the room.

Daniel took two slow, measured steps toward Victoria, towering over her with the presence of an executioner.

“Tell your husband that his loan payment is no longer due next month,” Daniel said into the open phone.

“It is due at eight o’clock tomorrow morning,” Daniel added coldly.

Richard let out a strangled groan of despair over the line.

“Mr. Bennett, please, have mercy, my wife didn't know!” Richard pleaded.

Daniel reached out and tapped the red disconnect button on Victoria’s screen.

The corridor fell into an absolute, suffocating silence.

Victoria stared at Daniel, her skin draining of all color until she looked like a ghost.

“You... you can’t ruin us over an old woman,” Victoria whispered, her voice trembling violently.

Daniel leaned down until his eyes were level with hers.

May you like

“That old woman sacrificed thirty years of her life working three jobs to raise me,” Daniel whispered.

“And you just destroyed your entire family’s future with a single slap,” Daniel said.
