Chapter 50 - The Final Countdown at Sea: The Baby’s Voice Echoed Through the Submarine’s Intercom

Before Jonathan Ellison could give the order to fire, the steel roof of the train car exploded downward in a hurricane of blinding magnesium flashbangs.

*BOOM! BOOM!*

The concussive force blew the Russian mercenary backward. In the blinding white smoke, Cora broke her conditioning with an animalistic scream, diving forward. She didn't fire at Dante—she hurled her knife across the room with pinpoint accuracy, burying the six-inch steel blade directly into the Russian's throat.

As the mercenary collapsed, Claire lunged across the floor, catching baby Leo mid-air before his tiny body could hit the iron tracks. She rolled onto her back, cradling her son against her heart, her body shielding him from the hail of falling metal.

"Move! To the tunnel!" Dante roared, scooping up his Desert Eagle and firing three rapid rounds into the train car's engine block.

A massive blast tore the parlor car in two. Jonathan Ellison screamed in fury as the fire separated them, his body thrown back into the burning wreckage of his private sanctuary.

"He's getting away!" Cora shouted, wiping blood from her forehead, her tactical gear scorched by the explosion. "There's a dry dock connection at the end of Track 61! It leads straight to the East River!"

They sprinted through the smoking debris, Dante leading the way with a tactical shotgun retrieved from a fallen guard. Ahead of them, the tunnel opened up into a massive, cavernous subterranean dry dock that smelled of saltwater and oil.

Tied to the submerged concrete pier was not a train, and not a civilian boat.

It was a black, unmarked *Vanguard-class* stealth nuclear submarine, its hydro-jet engines already humming with low, deep-frequency power that vibrated through the marrow of their bones.

On the open conning tower stood Jonathan Ellison, his dress uniform scorched, his face bleeding, holding a master wireless detonator.

"If I don't leave this harbor with the boy, none of us leave!" Jonathan screamed over the roar of the rushing river water. "The submarine's scuttle charges are armed! Sixty seconds to full detonation!"

Dante raised his weapon, but Jonathan ducked inside the conning tower, and the heavy titanium hatch slammed shut with a deafening hydraulic hiss.

*WARNING: AUTOMATED DIVING SEQUENCE INITIATED. VESSEL SUBMERGING IN 45 SECONDS.*

The massive black hull began to sink into the dark waters of the East River, pulling thousands of gallons of water into the dry dock chamber. The water was already rising past Claire’s boots, swirling with freezing intensity.

"Claire! We have to climb the emergency gantry!" Dante yelled, grabbing her arm. "The whole dock is going to flood!"

Claire looked down at Leo.

Suddenly, the dry dock’s public address system—hooked directly into the submarine's open internal command bridge—chirped with an open audio feed.

Jonathan Ellison’s frantic voice echoed over the speakers: *"Abort code required! The biometric interface is rejecting the Admiral's key! Override! Override!"*

Then, inside Claire’s arms, baby Leo looked up at the glowing speakers mounted on the concrete wall.

His tiny lips parted.

In a clear, sweet, terrifyingly articulate infant voice, the eight-month-old child spoke four words that froze Claire’s soul to absolute ice:

"Omega... Seven... Zero... Mama."

From the depths of the submerging submarine, the automated computer system answered the baby's voice over the open intercom:

`VOICEPRINT RECOGNIZED: PROJECT LEVIATHAN SUPREME COMMANDER.`

`DOOMSDAY PROTOCOL: RESUMED.`

`TARGET: WASHINGTON D.C.`

`TIME TO IMPACT: THREE MINUTES.`

The submarine’s torpedo tube outer doors slammed open beneath the boiling black water—and a siren began to scream across the entire Eastern seaboard.
