Chapter 30 - The Leviathan Protocol: The Sky Caught Fire—And the Real Enemy Was Behind the Trigger

The cabin of the private jet seemed to plummet into sub-zero temperatures.
Claire stared at the frozen transmission screen, the Chairman’s words echoing through her skull like a series of violent detonations. *Your mother.*
"Claire?" Dante’s voice was sharp with sudden alarm. He set Leo gently into the cushioned seat and stepped across the aisle, his hand resting firmly on her trembling shoulder. "What is it? What happened?"
Claire couldn't speak. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps.
Her mother, Captain Eleanor Ellison, had been the Navy's chief biometrics pioneer—a brilliant, reclusive scientist who had supposedly perished in an explosion aboard a naval research vessel in the Mediterranean when Claire was only ten years old. It was Eleanor’s closed-casket funeral that had driven Claire to join the Naval Academy, to seek answers, to become the iron commander she was today.
Her entire life—her service, her discipline, her pursuit of truth—had been built on the foundation of a grave.
An empty grave.
"Miller," Claire forced her voice to work, her hands trembling as she hit the direct secure comms to the *Vanguard's* intelligence hub. "Run an immediate biometric cross-reference on the intruder at Bethesda. Use my master genetic sequence as the baseline template. Set tolerance to maternal first-degree match."
Five seconds of agonizing, suffocating silence passed.
Then, Commander Miller’s voice came back, entirely stripped of its military composure, cracked with sheer panic.
*"Admiral... oh God, Admiral... it's a ninety-nine point eight percent match. It's her. Eleanor Ellison is alive."*
Before Claire could even process the horror, the aircraft violently pitched forty-five degrees to the right.
The master warning horn blared through the cabin. Red emergency lights flickered on as the jet's engines screamed under an unexpected surge of electrical feedback.
"Warning! System failure!" the pilot's voice shrieked over the intercom. "All fly-by-wire controls are unresponsive! Our avionics are being overridden from an external ground station! We're locked out of the flight controls!"
Dante lunged across the cabin, scooping Leo into his arms and strapping himself into the reinforced bulkhead seat. "Who is hacking a military transport flight?!"
Claire slammed her hands onto the table, wrestling with the encrypted console. "It's not a hack! It's a remote master recall protocol built into the aircraft’s avionics architecture!"
On her terminal screen, the Navy’s classified operating system vanished.
The screen turned pitch black.
Then, a line of emerald-green text scrolled across the display, letter by letter, spelling out a phrase that had been whispered only in the darkest legends of naval intelligence:
`LEVIATHAN PROTOCOL INITIATED.`
`WELCOME HOME, ADMIRAL ELLISON.`
`THE CRADLE WAS NEVER THE WEAPON.`
`YOU WERE.`
Suddenly, the encrypted satellite phone mounted on the bulkhead began to ring. A single, piercing chime that pierced through the wailing sirens of the diving aircraft.
Claire looked at Dante. His eyes were wide, burning with fierce protective rage, holding their son against his chest as the plane rattled violently against the atmospheric turbulence outside.
Claire stepped toward the bulkhead, her boots locking against the slanting floor, and ripped the receiver from the cradle.
She pressed it to her ear.
*"Hello, Claire,"* a voice purred over the line.
It was an older woman's voice. Elegant. Chillingly calm. Melodic, yet carrying the terrifying weight of an architect who had spent thirty years orchestrating empires from the shadows.
*"You played your part brilliantly, my sweet girl,"* the voice whispered with a terrifying, maternal tenderness. *"You brought Dante Moretti’s bloodline exactly where I needed it. You recovered the master key. And now... it's time for the true command to begin."*
Outside the cabin windows, through the thick cloud deck over the Atlantic coast, the night sky suddenly ignited with blinding trails of fire as dozens of automated military defense batteries along the eastern seaboard powered up, their tracking radars locking directly onto the descending jet.
Claire gripped the receiver until the plastic cracked beneath her fingers, her gray eyes narrowing into a blaze of pure, unyielding defiance.
"Who are you?" Claire snarled into the dead silence of the storm.
May you like
A soft, cruel laugh echoed from the other end of the line.
*"Look out the window, Admiral... and watch your sky burn."*
