Chapter 77 - The Voice from the Deep

The entire bridge of the *Dauntless* froze. Officers turned in stunned disbelief toward the four-star admiral whose face had suddenly drained of every drop of color.

"Cut the power!" Vance bellowed, lunging toward the primary communications terminal. "Kill the primary generators! Cut the satellite array! That is a rogue transmission from a compromised terrorist entity!"

"It’s not a terrorist entity, Admiral," Reynolds whispered, stepping back from his superior officer, his hand dropping instinctively toward his holstered sidearm. "That’s Eleanor’s voice. And that’s the Joint Chiefs' emergency override code flashing on the master display."

From the depths beneath the flagship, the *Leviathan* did not fire a torpedo. We fired the truth.

In rapid, inescapable succession, the quantum drive broadcast the encrypted logs of the Dayton syndicate. Audio files of Vance discussing illegal armaments sales with foreign intermediaries played across the bridge speakers. Banking ledgers documenting twenty-five million dollars transferred into private dummy accounts in the Cayman Islands lit up every monitor from the carrier deck to the Pentagon watch room. And finally, the horrifying audio log from the Dayton safehouse—the cold-blooded murder of Aunt Claire ordered to cover the admiral's tracks—echoed through the corridors of the carrier.

A thousand sailors aboard the *Dauntless* listened in paralyzed silence. The man who had walked among them as a living legend, draped in medals and unassailable authority, was being stripped naked before the entire world.

"Down below!" a lookout suddenly screamed from the starboard observation deck. "Surface contact! Starboard beam! Zero yards!"

The black ocean parted like torn silk. The shattered, blackened, bleeding bow of the *Leviathan* breached the surface, rising alongside the *Dauntless* like a vengeance-carved leviathan risen from the dead. Water cascaded off our scorched titanium hull in torrents, white spray roaring into the night air as our emergency ballast tanks emptied with a deafening roar.

We were broken, scorched, and flooding, but our flag still flew from the conning tower.
