Chapter 68 - The Harmonic Nullification

The twins paused at the threshold of the pressurized evacuation capsule.
For all their cold intellect, for all their calculated maneuvers and flawless logic, they were still two young boys looking at the man who had abandoned them, now trading his life to keep their escape route open.
"Álvaro," Marcos said, his hand lingering on the airlock wheel.
"Don't look back!" Álvaro gasped, locking his arms around Aurelius's neck in a desperate chokehold as the old patriarch bit, gouged, and kicked like a wild animal. "You proved you never needed me! You proved you were Elena's boys! Now get out of here and live!"
A massive steel support girder tore loose from the ceiling seventy feet above, smashing directly through the gangway behind them. The platform severed in a hail of sparks and twisted iron.
Mateo pulled Marcos into the capsule.
"Door cycle initiated," Mateo commanded the pod’s automated terminal, his hands trembling—not from fear, but from a profound, terrifying surge of human emotion he had spent years suppressing.
The heavy titanium hatch sealed with an airtight hiss. Through the reinforced observation viewport, the twins watched the final seconds of the Vance dynasty play out.
The catwalk collapsed entirely.
Aurelius and Álvaro plummeted together into the boiling, bioluminescent mist of the fractured trench. In his final moments, Aurelius was still clawing upward toward the false heavens he had tried to build, while Álvaro’s eyes remained fixed on the capsule's viewport, his battered face softening into a single, unmistakable nod of farewell.

"Emergency launch sequence engaged," the pod announced.
With a tremendous burst of compressed nitrogen, the capsule rocketed upward through the vertical evacuation shaft just as the Genesis Spire's primary reactor imploded behind them in a silent, subterranean shockwave of pure harmonic nullification.
