Chapter 35 - The Architect’s Voice

The twins spun around, their bodies immediately stepping in front of their mother in mutual defensive synchronization.

The sound wasn't coming from an intruder. It was emanating from the factory's auxiliary communication unit, commandeered remotely via an unlisted military frequency.

"Cassian," Lucía breathed, her face turning ashen. "Where are you?"

"I am everywhere my code breathes, Lucía," the smooth, cultured voice replied over the crackling speaker. "In the financial nodes of Geneva, in the orbital arrays circling over London, and inside the minds of the two masterpieces you stole from my laboratory."

"We are not masterpieces," Marcos snapped toward the speaker. "We are people. And we destroyed your syndicate's front company in open court."

A low, resonant chuckle echoed from the speaker.

"You destroyed Julian Vance," Cassian corrected gently, as if tutoring a gifted student. "Julian was an ambitious insect who mistook the blueprint for the building. He was a petty corporate executive playing with fire he could never hope to understand. Did you truly believe a corporate trial and an indictment from the Securities and Exchange Commission could touch the architecture of the Coalition?"

"We solved your encryption," Mateo countered, stepping forward, his eyes narrowed at the speaker. "We extracted the Blue Folder's data. If we upload this master sequence to the global public domain, your entire shadow network collapses within twenty-four hours."

"Does it, Mateo?" Cassian asked smoothly. "Look closer at the secondary partition of the sequence, my boy."

Marcos tapped the holographic projection floating above the worktable. The code expanded, revealing an underlying biological subroutine nested beneath the global infrastructure commands.

Marcos froze. His breath caught in his throat.

"What is it, Marcos?" Lucía asked frantically.

"It's... it's a metabolic trigger," Marcos stammered, staring at the lines of genetic code. "The synthetic neural pathways in our brains... they aren't stable without an external bi-weekly enzymatic stabilizer."

"Cassian... what did you do to them?!" Lucía screamed, lunging toward the speaker.

"I built insurance into their biology, Lucía," Cassian’s voice chilled the air. "Did you truly believe I would allow my greatest creations to walk the earth without a leash? Without the stabilizing enzyme produced only on my offshore facility, the neural architecture within their brains will overload. In seventy-two hours, the cognitive resonance will cause irreversible synaptic collapse."

Cassian paused, the silence stretching like a taut wire.

"Come home, boys. Or watch your brilliant minds burn you alive from the inside out."
