Chapter 9 - THE DEED SHE COULD NEVER HAVE

I entered the building alone.

The original condo deed was safe in a bank vault.

But Eleanor didn't need the deed.

She needed my signature.

She wanted me to transfer the condo.

Withdraw my statement.

Destroy the investigation.

And sign away my future.

She revealed the real reason she had arranged my marriage.

Not only the condo.

My profession.

The Halcyon Tower required an independent structural review.

She needed my credibility.

She needed my signature.

And Adrian had secretly accessed my computer.

He had copied more than photographs.

He had copied my professional identity.

I reached for the pen.

Then stopped.

“The legal description is wrong.”

Monica looked down.

For two seconds, she was distracted.

I struck her hand with the pen.

Lydia pulled Grace down.

The gun fired.

Glass exploded.

Reyes entered.

Federal agents flooded the building.

Eleanor escaped through a maintenance tunnel.

But Monica was arrested.

And the gun she abandoned had been used sixteen years earlier.

The weapon that killed my father's driver.

Eleanor had kept it.

Not as evidence.

May you like

As a trophy.
