Chapter 13 - THE SON WHO WANTED THE EMPIRE
Julian had not escaped.
He had switched sides.
He wanted the Caldwell companies.
The offshore accounts.
The hidden money.
The empire.
Caroline's children were being held in a running vehicle.
Julian wanted the encryption key.
I stalled him.
Federal agents tracked the signal.
Then Eleanor appeared.
Mother and son faced each other.
“You were never going to give me anything,” Julian said.
“You were always the weakest child,” Eleanor replied.
Charles entered.
For the first time, he looked defeated.
“I was obedient,” he said.
“That is worse,” Eleanor answered.
Gunfire erupted.
Julian was shot.
Charles was wounded.
Federal agents stormed the warehouse.
Eleanor was arrested.
The children were rescued.
But Eleanor had one final defense.
Every document carried Charles's signature.
She had built the empire so he would take the blame.
Charles offered to testify.
But he wanted protection.
And he wanted Lydia to forgive him for helping steal Grace.
Lydia had not forgotten.
