Chapter 11 - THE SECOND EXPLOSION
The second charge detonated twelve minutes later.
The third failed.
Bomb technicians dismantled it near the foundation.
Adrian was arrested again.
He claimed he had saved my life.
Maybe he had.
But saving someone once does not erase years of manipulation.
I confronted him.
“You knew Grace was your daughter.”
“Yes.”
“You let her believe you were her uncle.”
“My mother said it was safer.”
“For whom?”
He had no answer.
Then he told me Rebecca Sloan was alive.
She had been hiding inside the Caldwell family.
“Who?”
“Caroline Vale.”
His aunt.
The woman who had watched him attack me at the dinner.
The woman who had claimed she saw nothing.
Before he could tell me more, the hospital alarm sounded.
Monica Shaw escaped custody.
She entered disguised as a nurse.
She tried to kill Adrian.
I pushed his wheelchair aside.
The bullet struck the wall.
Shaw vanished into the smoke.
Adrian grabbed my wrist.
“Rebecca is Caroline.”
“She has the final recording.”
Then he whispered the truth.
“She married Thomas Vale to get access to his records.”
