Charles revealed the Black Ledger.
A secret archive beneath the vineyard chapel.
It contained thirty years of crimes.
Threats.
Payoffs.
Assaults.
Deaths.
My father's name appeared in the files.
So did the date of my wedding.
Beside my marriage certificate was a handwriting analysis.
Adrian had practiced copying my signature.
Attached was a four-million-dollar loan against my condo.
The loan was fraudulent.
The bank planned to foreclose.
The condo was never just a romantic target.
It had been a financial trap.
We stopped the foreclosure.
But another revelation remained.
The night Lydia disappeared, Adrian had not simply abandoned her.
He had heard her begging for help.
He had seen Grace.

Lydia had been transported across state lines and abandoned near the Oregon coast.
