Chapter 49 - Bloodline Sovereignty

"You always were remarkably punctual, Clara," Arthur said without looking up from his papers. He turned a page slowly, his fountain pen scratching against the parchment. "I anticipated you would reach this salon by 04:30. It is currently 04:28. You’ve improved your operational speed."
"Where is the master ledger for the genetic trials, Arthur?" I asked, keeping my weapon leveled at the back of his neck as I advanced across the marble floor. Marcus took up a defensive position at the doorway, covering the access corridors.
Arthur chuckled, a dry, rattling sound from deep within his chest. He turned slowly in his swivel chair to face me. In the warm salon light, the illusion of his health vanished. His skin was gray, translucent like parchment, and beneath his immaculate collar, the purple veins of a failing circulatory system were clearly visible.
"Look at me, daughter," Arthur whispered, opening his coat to reveal an automated intravenous port embedded directly over his heart, pulsing with clear synthetic fluids. "The enzyme didn't just fail Julian and Victoria. It failed me. My cellular structure has been collapsing for three years. I have three months left before total organ necrosis."
"Then you die," I said coldly. "Like thousands of patients died during your unauthorized clinical trials in South America. Like the people Julian poisoned to hide the ledger."
"You don't understand the scale of what we built!" Arthur's voice rose, trembling with an almost religious fanaticism. "Noah’s genetic markers don't just cure cellular degradation—they reverse biological aging! He is the key to immortality, Clara! The Vance family wouldn't just be billionaires; we would be gods! Kings above nations!"
"Noah is a five-month-old baby!" I screamed, the rage exploding from the depths of my chest. "He is not a medicine bottle! He is not your fountain of youth! He is my son!"
"He is Vance property!" Arthur snarled, slamming his fist onto the marble desk. "And you are my creation! You cannot kill me, Clara. You carry my blood. You carry my ambition. Everything you used to destroy Julian, to bankrupt Victoria, to conquer the board—those were my instincts! I carved them into your mind with twenty years of training!"

"You're wrong about one thing, Dad," I said, stepping forward until the muzzle of my gun was resting directly against his forehead. "You taught me how to destroy my enemies. But you never taught me how to be a mother. I learned that on my own, while my husband was sunburned in Cabo and my baby was dying in an incubator."
