Chapter 9 - THE STERLING PANIC

Three miles away, in a sprawling penthouse overlooking the city, Arthur Sterling’s cell phone rang.
The billionaire CEO picked it up, expecting to hear from his daughter about the successful delivery of the merger documents.
Instead, it was his head of legal counsel.
"Arthur," the lawyer’s voice was frantic. "Victoria has been arrested. She is currently in a holding cell at the central precinct. Bail has been denied."
Arthur stood up, his whiskey glass slipping from his hand and shattering on the floor.
"Bail denied? On what grounds?!"
"Marcus Vance personally handed the District Attorney a high-definition video of Victoria physically assaulting his pregnant wife. Arthur... the footage is catastrophic. She stepped on her."
The blood drained from Arthur’s face.
He knew Marcus Vance. He knew the ruthless, methodical way the man destroyed his enemies.

"Call Vance," Arthur ordered desperately. "Offer him the entire South Harbor equity! Offer him whatever he wants!"
"I tried," the lawyer whispered. "Vance Global’s legal team isn't answering. Arthur... they aren't looking for a settlement. They are preparing for an execution."
