Chapter 12 - THE FIRST CRY

Time lost all meaning.
Marcus sat with his head buried in his hands, praying to a God he rarely spoke to.
Then, the heavy surgical doors swung open.
Dr. Evans stepped out. Her surgical mask was pulled down, and a tired, brilliant smile illuminated her face.
"Mr. Vance," she said softly.
Marcus shot up, his heart pounding in his ears.

"Your wife is exhausted, but she is stable. The surgery was a success." Dr. Evans stepped aside. "You can come in and meet your daughter."
A massive, shuddering breath of relief tore from Marcus’s chest. He pushed past the doors, practically running down the corridor.
