Chapter 5 - THE ALL-SEEING EYE

Victoria continued to sob against Marcus’s chest, her hands gripping his tuxedo jacket.
"You have to get her help, Marcus," Victoria wept, playing the role of the sympathetic friend to perfection. "She’s clearly suffering from severe prenatal psychosis. She needs to be committed before she hurts the baby. My father’s private psychiatric clinic can—"
Marcus did not let her finish the sentence.
He did not gently push Victoria away.
He did not offer a polite, corporate evasion.
Marcus’s large hands shot up, his fingers clamping down on Victoria’s bare wrists with a grip like industrial steel.
Victoria gasped in genuine shock as Marcus ripped her hands off his tuxedo.
With a sudden, violent thrust, he shoved her backward.
Victoria stumbled, her stilettos catching on the marble, her arms flailing wildly to keep her balance. She caught herself just before falling, her fake tears drying up instantly as she stared at the billionaire in utter disbelief.
"Marcus... what are you doing?" Victoria stammered, the manufactured panic in her voice completely shattering. "I'm the victim here! Look at her, she has a weapon!"
Marcus stepped fully into the foyer, his heavy dress shoes crunching over a piece of broken glass.
His eyes were blazing with a terrifying, unholy fury. It was a rage so absolute, so intensely controlled, that it was infinitely more dangerous than a man screaming.
When he finally spoke, his voice was a low, lethal rumble that shook the very walls of the mansion.
"Step away from my wife."
Victoria froze. The blood drained from her flawless face, leaving her looking like a porcelain doll.
"Marcus, you're not thinking clearly!" Victoria desperately tried to pivot, using her family's name as a shield. "My father is underwriting the South Harbor expansion! You need the Sterling Trust! You are going to ruin our alliance over a hysterical school teacher?!"
Marcus ignored her completely.
He bypassed the heiress as if she were nothing more than garbage on the floor.
He dropped to his knees right in the center of the broken glass and spilled water, ruining his bespoke trousers.
He reached out with infinitely gentle, trembling hands, carefully prying the bloody shard of crystal from Chloe’s tight grip and tossing it aside.
"I’ve got you, my love," Marcus whispered, his voice cracking with raw, unfiltered emotion as he slipped his strong arms beneath her shoulders and knees. "I’ve got you. I am so incredibly sorry I wasn't here."
He pulled Chloe’s trembling body against his chest, holding her with a fierce, unbreakable desperation.
"She... she stepped on me, Marcus," Chloe sobbed, burying her face into his neck, the adrenaline finally crashing. "She stepped right on the baby."
Hearing those words, Marcus closed his eyes.
A dark, murderous tremor wracked his broad shoulders.
When he opened his eyes again and looked back at Victoria, he did not look at her as a corporate ally. He looked at her as a dead woman standing.
Victoria stood near the table, her arrogance returning as she realized he was choosing Chloe. She crossed her arms, lifting her chin with a sneer of pure, aristocratic contempt.
"Go ahead, play the hero, Marcus," Victoria scoffed, her true colors finally exposed under the chandelier light. "But it's her word against mine. There are no witnesses. The security guards are outside. When I go to the press tomorrow and tell them your pregnant wife assaulted me in a manic episode, who do you think the media will believe? The Sterling family, or the nobody?"
Victoria smiled a cold, victorious smile.
"You have no proof."
Marcus slowly stood up.
He kept Chloe safely tucked behind his legs.
He looked at the woman in the red dress. He admired her sheer, blinding arrogance. It was the kind of arrogance that always led predators directly into traps.
"You think you're clever, Victoria," Marcus said, his voice echoing clearly and coldly across the vast marble foyer. "You think you can bribe my night manager. You think you can walk into my home, threaten the heir to my empire, and orchestrate a tragedy."
Marcus slowly raised his right hand.
He pointed a single, steady finger toward the high, vaulted ceiling, directly above the heavy mahogany console table.
"But you missed one crucial detail regarding how I protect what is mine."
Victoria’s confident smile faltered.
Her dark eyes followed his finger upward, scanning the intricate, white crown molding near the ceiling.
There, mounted perfectly flush with the drywall, was a sleek, matte-black security dome.
And right in the center of that black dome, staring directly down at the spot where Victoria had stood on Chloe’s chest...
A tiny, glowing red light blinked steadily.
Blink. Blink. Blink.
The air rushed out of Victoria’s lungs in a hollow, terrified gasp.
Her legs went weak. The red satin gown suddenly felt like a burial shroud.
"A 4K resolution, audio-enabled, motion-tracking internal security array," Marcus stated, his voice ringing with the finality of a judge passing an execution sentence. "Installed globally across this estate forty-eight hours ago. It bypasses the night manager entirely and uploads directly to a secure, encrypted cloud server managed by my personal legal team."
Victoria took a stumbling step backward. Her hands flew to her mouth.
She wasn't just caught.
She was absolutely, permanently ruined.
"It has recorded every word," Marcus continued mercilessly, watching the billionaire heiress shatter before his eyes. "It recorded you admitting to bribing my staff. It recorded you destroying my property. And it captured, in high-definition slow-motion, the exact moment you placed your stiletto heel onto my pregnant wife's chest."
"Marcus... no," Victoria whispered, dropping to her knees on the cold marble, her hands clasped together in pure, unadulterated panic. "Please! It was a mistake! I was jealous! My father will give you the South Harbor expansion for free! I'll sign over the equity! Do not release that footage!"
Marcus reached into the inner pocket of his tuxedo jacket and pulled out his cell phone.

"I don't want your father's equity, Victoria," Marcus said, his eyes black and devoid of mercy as he dialed the emergency dispatch line.
"I want you in a concrete cell for the rest of your natural life."
