Chapter 7 - The Guardianship Hearing

Forty-eight hours later, an emergency hearing convened in the private chambers of Family Court Judge Eleanor Vance (no relation).
Marcus sat at the petitioner’s table, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, with Elena seated quietly beside him as a protected witness.
Across the aisle sat Victoria’s court-appointed public defender, as all private corporate attorneys tied to the Sterling firm had been recused or indicted.
Judge Eleanor reviewed the video footage from the hallway on her private monitor.
She watched Victoria delivery the vicious kick toward Elena.
She watched Elena wrap her body around baby Leo, taking the brunt of the physical momentum against the wall.
She watched Marcus step in, deliver the decisive physical strike, and immediately secure the perimeter.
Judge Eleanor removed her reading glasses, looking down at the defense table with undisguised contempt.
"In twenty-four years on this bench, I have rarely witnessed such a grotesque abuse of maternal privilege," Judge Eleanor declared.
"The respondent, Victoria Sterling-Vance, has demonstrated a complete lack of parental fitness, weaponizing an innocent child for financial extortion."
The judge picked up her heavy wooden gavel.
"The court hereby grants sole, absolute physical and legal custody of Leo Vance to Marcus Vance.
A lifetime protective order is issued against Victoria Sterling, prohibiting any contact within one thousand yards of the minor child.
Furthermore, the court acknowledges Elena Morales’s extraordinary heroism in shielding the child from physical harm, awarding her official legal standing as a certified protective guardian within the household."
The heavy gavel slammed down with an authoritative crack.
Marcus reached over and gently squeezed Elena's trembling hand.

"It's over, Elena," Marcus whispered.
"You protected my son, and the law has protected you."
