Chapter 10 - The Grandfather's Trust

Two months after the custody hearing, Marcus received an urgent summons from the senior trustees of the Vance Family Trust in Boston.
Accompanied by Elena and baby Leo, Marcus flew aboard his private jet to attend the formal covenant review.
Inside the historic oak-paneled boardroom of Vance & Company, four elderly trustees sat around an antique table.
Chief Trustee William Vance, Marcus’s grand-uncle, adjusted his spectacles and opened the velvet-lined trust covenant.
"Marcus, under the provisions established by your late grandfather in 1994, the seventy-five-million-dollar primary endowment required proof of stable, ethical family governance," William began.
"We have reviewed the federal trial transcripts, the video recordings, and the family court decrees."
William looked up, his weathered face breaking into a proud, approving smile.
"Your grandfather despised greed and deceit above all else.
He built this trust to reward courage and the protection of the innocent.
By unanimous vote, the trustees have officially ratified the permanent vesting of the Vance Trust in your name and the name of your son, Leo."
Marcus bowed his head with deep respect.
"Thank you, Uncle William.
I will ensure this legacy is used to build, protect, and heal."
William turned his gaze to Elena, who was holding Leo quietly in the corner of the room.
"And to you, Miss Morales," William added in a warm, resonant voice.
"This board has established a ten-million-dollar permanent endowment for the Morales Pediatric Foundation in Chicago in recognition of your valor.

You are a credit to your father's memory and an honor to our family name."
Elena wiped a tear of joy from her cheek, feeling the weight of a long struggle finally lifted from her shoulders.
