Chapter 6 - The Interrogation of Victoria

Down in the east parlor, Victoria sat on an antique velvet settee, her arms crossed tightly over her chest.

The red welt from Marcus’s slap was still visible along her cheekbone, but her expression had shifted into cold defiance.

Federal Agent Sarah Jenkins sat across from her, a digital recording tablet resting on the coffee table.

"Mrs. Vance, we have completed the forensic review of your personal encrypted cellular device," Agent Jenkins began.

"We recovered ninety-two text messages between you and your father detailing the planned staging of an altercation with the nanny."

Victoria scoffed, looking away toward the French doors.

"Those messages were private privileged communications between a client and her legal counsel."

"Legal counsel does not protect conspiracy to commit assault and extortion, Mrs. Vance," Jenkins stated smoothly.

Jenkins tapped the screen, playing an audio recording recovered from Victoria's cloud voice memo app.

Victoria’s own voice echoed through the ornate room:

"If the maid refuses to hand over the baby, I will force an altercation. Once she retaliates, we file emergency protective orders, remove Marcus from the estate, and seize the primary trust before the annual audit."

Victoria’s mouth fell open, her eyes widening in sheer terror.

She had recorded those voice notes while sitting in her sports car outside the country club, believing her private cloud was impenetrable.

"That... that was just an emotional venting session!" Victoria cried out, her voice breaking into hysterical sobs.

"Marcus pushed me to the edge! He never loved me! He treated me like an ornament!"

Agent Jenkins stood up, unholstering a pair of federal cuffs.

"Stand up, Victoria.

Victoria screamed as the cold metal locked around her wrists, her pristine designer life shattered beyond repair.
