Chapter 15 - The House of Light

The sun was setting over the Pacific horizon, painting the sky in deep shades of rose, gold, and lavender.

The grand hallway of the Vance estate, where violence had once flared beneath the chandeliers, was now filled with the cheerful sounds of Leo playing with a wooden toy train.

Elena walked through the open French doors onto the stone terrace, carrying a tray of fresh lemonade.

Marcus was sitting on the teak bench, reviewing architectural blueprints for a new children's hospital in Chicago.

He looked up as Elena approached, a profound, serene peace glowing in his dark eyes.

Elena set the tray down and sat beside him, leaning her head against his strong shoulder.

"Look at him, Marcus," Elena whispered, watching Leo drive his little train across the terrace rug.

"He is growing so fast."

Marcus wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close against his side.

"He will grow up knowing what a real family feels like, Elena," Marcus replied softly.

"He will grow up knowing honor, truth, and love."

A gentle evening breeze rustled the blooming jasmine along the stone balustrade, carrying the fresh scent of the sea into the house.

The oak floors were clean, the doors were open to the light, and the walls were filled with genuine happiness.

The trial by fire had ended.
