Chapter 18 - Rain over Pier 9

The grand ballroom of the Manhattan Imperial Hotel was an explosion of opulence, black-tie sophistication, and dark power. Over three hundred high-ranking mafia dons, syndicate bosses, and international brokers sat around velvet-draped tables under massive crystal chandeliers.
At the head of the main stage stood Lord Valenti, wearing a white tuxedo, raising a glass of vintage champagne.
"Gentlemen!" Valenti’s voice resonated across the ballroom speakers. "Tonight, we unite under a single banner! The Moretti estate is vacant, and the Allied Council hereby recognizes—"
BOOM!
The massive floor-to-ceiling glass doors overlooking the Hudson River exploded inward in a blinding shower of crystal shards and smoke!
A heavy armored black SUV smashed straight through the ballroom balcony railing, grinding to a halt in the center of the velvet carpet!
Panicked screams erupted across the room as mob bosses scattered for cover.
The driver’s door opened slowly.
Stepping out into the glittering ballroom, dressed in a sharp black suit soaked with rain and blood, his dark hair slicked back, was Don Dante Moretti.
Beside him stepped Elena, wearing a stunning black dress, holding five-year-old Lily securely in her arms.
The entire ballroom went completely dead silent.
"Dante...?" Lord Valenti stammered, his face turning pale as paper, dropping his champagne glass onto the floor. "Impossible... you died in the river!"
Dante took long, heavy strides toward the stage, his leather shoes clicking against the velvet carpet. Behind him, fifty loyal Moretti enforcers poured through the broken balcony doors, weapons raised, securing every exit.
"You're sitting in my chair, Valenti," Dante said, his voice a low, dangerous rumble that echoed off the high ceilings.
"This is an official Council meeting, Dante!" Valenti shrieked, backing toward his bodyguards. "You have no standing here! The Moretti trust requires the primary bloodline signature!"
Dante turned to Elena, who stepped forward and set little Lily gently on her feet.

Lily looked straight at the terrified Council bosses, pulled her eyebrows down into a hilarious, perfect imitation of Dante’s famous scowl, and pulled out her small plastic toy doctor's thermometer.
"Naughty old man," Lily said in her clear, ringing voice. "You tried to poison my Uncle Dante."
