Chapter 15 - The Cipher of Vengeance

The air inside the subterranean tunnels was freezing, smelling heavily of damp limestone and river salt. The distant explosions from the mansion above vibrated through the ancient bedrock, echoing like muffled thunder.
Dante led Elena and Lily down the steep stone stairs, holding his tactical flashlight in one hand and his SIG Sauer in the other. His shoulder wound from the previous night was bleeding through his dress shirt, but his stride remained unyielding.
"How did Marcus get the master ledger?" Elena asked, keeping close to Dante’s side as they reached the lower boat cavern beneath the palisades.
"Marcus wasn't just taking bribes," Dante growled, plugging the micro-drive into a rugged tactical laptop mounted on the console of his high-speed midnight-black interceptor boat. "He was holding the Valenti family's primary financial keys. He intended to double-cross both of us."
Lines of green binary code cascaded down the laptop screen at staggering speeds. Dante’s fingers flew across the keyboard, bypassing three encryption firewalls with practiced efficiency.
Suddenly, a file opened, displaying a high-resolution holographic schematic of a three-month-old infant's birth certificate and a bloodline registry.
Dante froze. His breathing stopped entirely as he stared at the screen.
"What is it, Dante?" Elena asked, leaning closer.
Dante turned his head slowly to look at five-year-old Lily, who was sitting on a wooden bench playing with a small velvet ribbon.
"Your husband, Dr. Julian Vance... he wasn't just a biochemist," Dante whispered, his voice trembling with a rare, profound shock. "He was the eldest son of Don Carmine Moretti—my late uncle. Lily isn't just an innocent bystander, Elena."
Elena’s face drained of color. "What... what are you saying?"
"Lily carries the direct, undisputed primary bloodline of the Moretti Founding Trust," Dante revealed, his gray eyes burning with fierce intensity. "She holds forty percent of my entire family's global assets. Vanessa didn't just want me dead—she wanted Lily erased so the Valenti clan could claim the entire trust as vacant!"
Elena gasped, covering her mouth as tears spilled down her cheeks. "My daughter... she’s a Moretti?"
"She is my niece," Dante said softly, reaching out to gently touch Lily’s cheek. "And she is the rightful heiress to this empire."

Suddenly, the heavy steel security doors of the boat cavern exploded inward in a shower of concrete dust and sparks.
Standing in the smoke, holding an assault rifle aimed directly at Dante’s head, was Lord Valenti himself—an older, ruthless mob boss with silver hair and cold, reptilian eyes.
