Chapter 25 - Dawn over the Rockies

The first pale ribbons of golden sunlight broke across the jagged, snow-capped peaks of the Rocky Mountains, casting a brilliant, blinding glare over the frozen landscape of Denver.

Inside Erica’s high-security forensic lab, the massive bank of multi-monitor displays finally shifted from flashing amber warning lights to a steady, peaceful emerald green. The decentralized smart contracts had been completely purged, the Swiss routing nodes had been successfully blackholed by federal cyber command, and Arthur Vance’s multi-million-dollar slush funds were officially frozen and transferred into the authorized restitution ledger for military charitable trusts.

Jason and I sat side-by-side on a pair of leather office chairs near the panoramic windows, sipping steaming black coffee from paper cups. My shoulder was bandaged under my jacket, a dull, aching reminder of the night's violent ascent, but the physical exhaustion was completely overshadowed by an overwhelming sense of profound peace.

The heavy mahogany doors of the lab swung open, and Erica walked in, holding a fresh stack of federal receivership documents and a certified audit report. She looked tired, her dark hair slightly messy from a sleepless night of coding and crisis management, but a triumphant smile lit up her face.

"It's done," Erica announced, dropping the thick audit folder onto the center table with a satisfying thud. "The U.S. Attorney’s office just finalized the asset recovery allocations. Every single cent belonging to your military unit’s foundation has been fully restored. The families' holiday support packages and educational stipends cleared the secure bank wires thirty minutes ago."

Jason let out a long, shuddering breath, resting his head back against the chair and closing his eyes. A genuine, unburdened smile finally spread across his face—the first real smile I had seen in years.

"We actually did it," Jason whispered, opening his eyes and looking over at me. "We broke the cycle."

I raised my paper cup in a quiet, solemn toast, clinking it gently against his.

"We didn't just break the cycle, little brother," I said, looking out past the sparkling glass window toward the endless expanse of the mountains stretching toward the horizon. "We finished the mission."

Down below on the sunlit streets of downtown Denver, the city was waking up to a new day—one where the shadows of corporate greed and untouchable corruption had finally been cleared away by truth, resilience, and the courage to stand in the fire. The storm had passed, and for the first time in our lives, the road ahead was entirely our own.
