Chapter 29 - The Total Collapse of Thorne

The click of the steel handcuffs locking around Dominic Thorne’s thick wrists was remarkably quiet, yet to the fourteen directors seated around the granite table, it sounded like an artillery shell detonating in the center of the room.
"Get your hands off me!" Dominic snarled weakly, though the fight had completely drained from his body. His tailored suit was rumpled, his blood-red tie was askew, and his face was slick with cold sweat as the two federal marshals took him firmly by the elbows. "This is an outrage! I demand to speak with my counsel! Harrison Cole—call Harrison Cole right now!"
"Harrison Cole is currently in Seattle, Dominic," Naomi said calmly, remaining at the head of the table. "Assisting Arthur Ellison in liquidating the assets of another arrogant fool who believed rules applied only to others. I doubt he will take your call."
Dominic stopped thrashing. He looked at Naomi, his eyes wide with a horrifying, hollow realization. The pieces finally fell into place: the sudden collapse of the Ellison real estate syndicate in Seattle that had dominated the business news over the weekend was not an isolated corporate restructuring. It was her. The quiet woman standing before him had systematically dismantled an entire dynasty on the West Coast before boarding a plane to do the exact same thing to him in Chicago.
"Your wife was right about one thing yesterday, Dominic," Naomi murmured, her voice steady and unyielding. "She wondered who I was. Now she knows. And when the federal asset forfeiture division seizes your Gold Coast estate, your private watercraft, and your luxury vehicles by the end of the week, she will have ample time to reflect on why character and humility matter."
With heads bowed and faces burning with profound, humiliating defeat, Dominic Thorne was marched out of the executive boardroom and into the public elevator bank under the stunned, silent gaze of hundreds of headquarters employees.
The heavy doors clicked shut behind him.
The silence that settled over the fiftieth floor was absolute. Thorne’s fourteen senior directors sat frozen in their seats, trembling, terrified that the federal marshals would return for them next.
Naomi slowly walked to the head of the table, pulling out the massive leather chair where Dominic had sat moments before. She did not sit down. She merely rested one hand on its polished back, looking down at the remaining executives with eyes that saw through every spreadsheet, every excuse, and every compromise they had ever made.
"Marcus," Naomi instructed evenly.
"Yes, Ms. Carter?"
"Every individual seated at this table who signed off on those falsified maritime maintenance logs is suspended immediately without severance, pending full internal forensic review," Naomi stated, her voice slicing through the room. "Turn over your corporate phones, your security badges, and your building keys to Ethan before you leave this floor. If our legal audit finds that you actively participated in the pension skimming, you will join Mr. Thorne in federal court."
Three directors immediately began to weep, fumbling with trembling fingers to unclip their ID badges and lay them on the granite table.

"For those who simply stayed silent out of fear," Naomi continued, her tone softening slightly with the calm, measured wisdom of a true leader, "you have twenty-four hours to submit full, unredacted disclosure memos to Marcus’s transitional team. Vanguard values loyalty, competence, and truth. But we do not tolerate cowards who allow the safety of working people to be traded for quarterly bonuses. This company’s culture will be cleaned from the water up. Clear the room."
Within sixty seconds, the boardroom was completely empty, leaving behind only the cold morning sunlight reflecting off the Chicago River and the quiet, triumphant calm of an empire restored to its true standards.
