Chapter 15 - A New Dawn

The morning sun cast a brilliant, golden hue over the Manhattan skyline, piercing through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse.

Julian sat on the edge of the plush sofa, his left arm resting in a dark sling. The bullet had passed clean through, missing major arteries, but the recovery would take time. He looked out over the city, the empire he had built, and realized that for the first time, it didn't look like a battlefield. It looked like a home.

Abby walked into the living room, carrying two steaming mugs of black coffee. She wore a simple white sweater and jeans, her hair falling loosely over her shoulders. She looked peaceful. Beautiful.

She set the mugs down on the glass table and sat beside him, carefully resting her head against his good shoulder.

"The FBI raided Vance's main compound this morning," Abby said softly. "They found enough evidence to put him away for multiple lifetimes. My father is safe. The clinic is secure."

Julian turned his head, kissing the top of her hair. "And you? Are you safe, Abby?"

She looked up at him, her dark eyes shining with absolute certainty. "I've never been safer."

Julian took a deep breath. He reached into his pocket with his good hand and pulled out a small, velvet box. He didn't open it immediately. He just held it, letting the weight of the moment settle between them.

"Three months ago, I tested you because I was terrified of being vulnerable," Julian murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "Yesterday, you risked everything to save me from the demons I created. You showed me that true power isn't about control, Abby. It's about trust. It's about knowing that someone has your back when the lights go out."

He opened the box. Inside rested a breathtaking, flawless diamond ring—not loud or ostentatious, but elegant, strong, and timeless.

"I don't have any more tests, Abby Mercer," Julian said, his eyes locking onto hers with unwavering devotion. "No more surveillance. No more bunkers. Just me. A man who loves you more than his own life. Will you marry me?"

Abby smiled, a radiant, tear-filled smile that eclipsed the morning sun. She didn't hesitate. She didn't need to think about the answer.

"Yes," she whispered, leaning in to press her lips softly against his. "Yes, Julian."

High above the chaotic streets of New York, surrounded by the warmth of the penthouse they had fought so hard to protect, Julian and Abby finally found their peace. The past was burned away, leaving an unbreakable foundation, ready for a brilliant new dawn.
