Chapter 14 - Judgement of the Oligarchs

The subterranean rotunda felt as cold as a tomb as Clara Jenkins held Victor Sterling at the point of her weapon.

"You have no idea what forces you are unleashing, Arthur," Victor sneered, his hands shaking despite his attempt to maintain an aristocratic posture.

"The Council of Twelve does not simply vanish; we are the foundation of global sovereign debt!" Victor proclaimed, appealing to the silent oligarchs around him.

"If you expose our accounts, the currency reserves of half the European Union will collapse by sunrise!" he shouted.

"Then let them collapse and rebuild upon honest labor," Arthur replied, his voice cutting through the hollow rhetoric like a surgical blade.

Arthur reached into his suit coat and placed a sleek Vance Corporation secure terminal onto the obsidian table.

"Clara, execute Protocol Jenkins," Arthur commanded without shifting his gaze from Victor.

Clara plugged an encrypted thumb drive—retrieved from her father’s cassette case in the New York vault—into the terminal's port.

The screen flashed with high-speed automated processes as bank ledgers, shadow trusts, and Cayman routing numbers unspooled before the terrified Council.

"What are you doing?" the French banker shrieked, clutching his head in utter despair.

"I am redistributing the stolen Vance assets back to the sovereign treasury of every nation you looted over the past thirty years," Arthur answered.

"And as for your personal wealth, gentlemen," Clara said, tapping the key with lethal precision.

"Consider it a comprehensive settlement for thirty years of domestic espionage and corporate terrorism," she stated.

Across the world, the personal holding accounts of all twelve oligarchs dropped to absolute zero simultaneously.

Smartphones buzzed furiously against the obsidian stone, lighting up with frantic alerts from Zurich, London, and Luxembourg.

"My accounts... my Swiss reserves... they're completely liquidated!" an Italian shipping magnate cried, sinking down into his leather chair in tears.

"You're bankrupt, gentlemen," Arthur told them with cold detachment.

"By tomorrow morning, your private jets will be seized on the runways, your villas will be auctioned by the state, and your corporate boards will vote to remove you," Arthur promised.

Victor Sterling watched his life's work vanish in strings of automated green code, his face turning an ashen gray.

"You think this gives you victory?" Victor whispered, his eyes flashing with sudden, rabid madness.

Victor suddenly reached into the inner lining of his tuxedo jacket, pulling a miniature chrome-plated derringer from a concealed holster.

"If I burn, Marcus Vance's spawn burns with me!" Victor screamed, leveling the twin-barrel pistol directly at Arthur's face.

Before Victor could even cock the hammer, Clara moved with the supernatural speed of a predator born in the shadows.

She did not fire her weapon; she stepped inside Victor's guard, her left hand striking his wrist with a shattering knife-edge palm blow.

The chrome pistol flew from Victor's grip, spinning across the obsidian table and clattering harmlessly to the floor.

With her right hand, Clara delivered an open-palm strike directly to Victor’s solar plexus, knocking the breath from his lungs with explosive force.

As Victor doubled over, gasping for air, Clara grabbed him by his silver hair and slammed his face into the polished stone table.

The sickening sound of cartilage breaking echoed through the rotunda as Victor's nose shattered across the obsidian.

Victor collapsed onto the floor, clutching his bleeding face, groveling at the feet of the maid he had once dismissed as a simple servant.

"That was for my father," Clara whispered, standing over the groveling billionaire with absolute, unyielding contempt.

"And this is for Lady Evelyn," Arthur added, stepping forward.

Arthur reached down, grabbed Victor by his collar, and hoisted the broken architect of the Council up until his feet barely touched the ground.

Arthur looked into the terror-filled eyes of the man who had tried to destroy his dynasty from the shadows.

"Your daughter swung a bat at an old woman in a wheelchair because she thought wealth granted her immunity from consequence," Arthur said softly.

"You hid behind shell corporations and assassinated good men in hospice beds because you thought power granted you godhood," Arthur continued.

"Today, you both learn that the Vance family collects its debts in full," Arthur pronounced.

Arthur hurled Victor Sterling across the room like a sack of discarded trash, sending him crashing into the heavy blast doors.

At that exact moment, the main heavy doors swung fully open, revealing a platoon of black-clad Swiss federal police armed with assault rifles.

At the front of the federal tactical team walked the Director of the Swiss Financial Crimes Division, carrying a stack of official red warrants.

"Victor Sterling," the Director announced, his voice echoing authoritatively across the subterranean rotunda.

"By order of the Federal Council and the International Court of Justice, you and your associates are under arrest for high treason, racketeering, and sovereign conspiracy," the Director stated.

Two officers moved forward with heavy steel restraints, pinning Victor to the floor and locking his arms behind his back.

The remaining eleven members of the Council surrendered without a single whisper of resistance, offering their wrists to the arresting officers like defeated sheep.

Victor looked up from the cold floor, his face covered in blood and tears, staring at Arthur Vance with venomous disbelief.

"This isn't over, Arthur!" Victor spat, blood dripping from his chin onto the polished concrete.

"The world will always have wolves! Someone else will take my place!" Victor screamed as the officers dragged him toward the exit.

Arthur adjusted his charcoal cuffs, looking down at the disgraced architect with cold indifference.

"Let them come, Victor," Arthur replied, his voice echoing with absolute authority.

"And when they do, the Vance family will be waiting for them," Arthur declared.

Clara lowered her shotgun, stepping beside Arthur as the rotunda was cleared of the traitors who had ruled Europe from the shadows.

The heavy blast doors closed behind the prisoners, leaving Arthur and Clara standing alone amidst the silence of the defeated fortress.

Arthur turned toward Clara, extending his hand with deep, sincere respect.

"Thomas Jenkins would be proud of the woman who carries his shield," Arthur said softly.

Clara took Arthur’s hand, her grip firm, unwavering, and forged in the fires of an empire reborn.

"He would be proud of us both, Mr. Vance," Clara replied with a faint, rare smile.

"Come, Clara," Arthur said, leading the way toward the waiting transport on the shores of Lake Geneva.

"It is time to go home to my mother," Arthur concluded.
