Chapter 6 - THE HOSPITAL HEIST

The sterile smell of the pediatric surgical wing was a stark contrast to the adrenaline burning in Mae’s veins. Bea was prepped, lying in a hospital gown, looking impossibly small.
Suddenly, the double doors of the ward swung open. Theo strode in, accompanied by a man in a sharp suit—a lawyer.
"Stop the prep," Theo commanded a passing nurse, his voice echoing loudly. "I am her father, and I do not consent to this elective procedure."
Mae stepped in front of Bea's bed, shielding her daughter with her body. "It is not elective. It is an emergency. Get out, Theo."
"Mae, you are legally not authorized to make unilateral medical decisions of this magnitude," the lawyer stated smoothly, holding up a file. "Mr. Theo has obtained a temporary injunction pending a second opinion."
The surgeon stepped out of the scrub room, frowning at the commotion. "What is going on here?"
"My husband is trying to kill our daughter," Mae said loudly, her voice ringing clearly down the hall.
Theo’s eyes widened in fury. "You're insane. Doctor, I demand you halt this."
Mae pulled out her phone. She didn't look at the lawyer; she looked straight into the dead eyes of her husband. "I have a flash drive, Theo. I spent a long time reading about the Cayman accounts last night. If you don't tear up that injunction right now and walk out that door, I press send, and those files go straight to the FBI."
The color drained from Theo's face. The corporate shark was suddenly drowning. He looked at Mae, realizing for the first time that she was no longer his victim. She was his executioner.

Theo snatched the injunction from the lawyer's hand, tore it in half, and threw it on the floor. He turned on his heel and walked out without looking at his daughter.
Mae let out a shuddering breath and turned to the surgeon. "Please. Save my little girl."
