Chapter 12 - THE INTERCEPTION

The parking structure was damp and reeked of motor oil. The flickering overhead lights cast long, distorted shadows. Mae walked purposefully, her heels clicking against the concrete.

Tires screeched. A black SUV slammed on its brakes, blocking her path. The door flew open, and Theo stepped out. He looked unhinged. The polished corporate exterior was completely gone, replaced by a desperate, violent man.

"Give me the drive, Mae," he demanded, stepping toward her.

"No," Mae said, backing up slightly. "It's over, Theo. I'm turning it in."

"You naive fool," he sneered, pulling something from his coat. A heavy wrench. "You think they'll believe a hysterical housewife over me? Give it to me, or I swear to God, you won't make it out of here."

From the shadows, the flash of a camera briefly illuminated the concrete. The private investigator had it all.

"I don't have the drive, Theo," Mae said, her voice echoing with newfound strength. "It's already in the hands of the feds. I sent it an hour ago."

Theo froze. The realization hit him like a physical blow. The weapon dropped from his hand, clattering loudly on the ground.
