Chapter 13 - THE HOUSE OF CARDS FALLS
The sound of sirens pierced the night, growing louder by the second. Mae hadn't just brought a private investigator; she had called the police before she left the house, reporting a man threatening her with a weapon.
Theo looked around wildly, like a trapped rat. He lunged for his car, but police cruisers swarmed the entrance of the parking structure, their red and blue lights painting the concrete in chaotic strobes.
"Hands in the air!" an officer shouted over a bullhorn.
Theo turned back to Mae, his face twisted in absolute hatred. "You ruined me."

"No, Theo," Mae said calmly, the fear completely gone from her heart. "You ruined yourself. I just survived."
She watched as they slammed him against the hood of his own car, handcuffing him. The reign of terror was over.
