Chapter 24 - The Race Against the Grid

Inside the gleaming glass-and-steel monolith of Whitmore Tower in downtown Manhattan, the central server room hummed with the quiet fury of thousands of enterprise processors churning through global real estate transactions and financial ledgers.
Natalie sprinted down the high-security subterranean corridor, her heels clicking sharply against the polished concrete floor, flanked by two armed corporate security operatives. Her target was the core mainframe housing the Project Janus backups—the digital vault that held the key to dismantling the Vanguard syndicate once and for all.
As they reached the heavy biometric blast door of the server room, Natalie punched her master override code into the terminal.
The screen flashed a glaring red warning: Access Denied. Root Override Active.
"Damn it," Natalie hissed, typing furiously. "Someone has locked us out from an internal terminal. They're wiping the servers from the inside."
"Can you bypass it?" one of the security guards asked, leveling his tactical rifle toward the corridor junction.
"Give me forty-and thirty seconds," Natalie replied, her fingers flying across the auxiliary console as she initiated a brute-force decryption sequence.
Above them, on the fifty-fifth-floor executive suite, Claire Whitmore watched the live perimeter feeds from her secure tablet. She had left Clara safely secured in the Manhattan penthouse under Arthur’s personal guard while she raced downtown to take command of the crisis.
The security feeds flickered as a squad of armed mercenaries breached the ground-floor lobby, overwhelming the night security team with chemical smoke and suppression fire. They weren't police; they were corporate assassins sent to erase every trace of the Whitmore empire’s corporate restructuring.

Claire’s eyes hardened. She picked up a secure satellite phone, dialing a direct line to the Manhattan precinct captain—an ally forged through months of legal reclamation.
"Captain, this is Claire Whitmore," she said, her voice steady and commanding. "We have an active armed takeover at Whitmore Tower. Authorize immediate tactical deployment under emergency corporate defense statutes. Clean them out."
