The models were waiting.
The lighting technicians were ready.
The guests had begun arriving.
But the central collection was missing.
Sophia's studio had withdrawn permission to use the designs.
The gowns remained under the control of AVERY's production team.
Marcus called Victoria again.
“She's serious.”
Victoria paced in her hotel suite.
“She can't do this.”
“She can.”
“We paid a deposit.”
“The agreement allows her to cancel if the collaboration damages her professional reputation.”
Victoria froze.
Marcus continued.
“And the deposit will be handled under the contract.”
Victoria looked toward the window.
“How much are we losing?”
Marcus hesitated.
“Enough that the board will want an explanation.”
Victoria closed her eyes.
She had spent months preparing the launch.

All because she couldn't tolerate a waitress answering back.
