Chapter 6 - THE MANAGER WHO CROSSED THE LINEInside the restaurant, Richard stood beside Victoria's table.
His cheek was red.
His pride was wounded.
But beneath his anger, fear was growing.
Victoria was shouting into her phone.
“Marcus, fix this!”
Richard tried to speak.
“Mrs. Blackwood—”
“Not now!”
He stepped back.
A nearby guest approached.
A middle-aged woman in a dark-blue evening dress.
She had witnessed the confrontation.
“Are you the manager?”
Richard forced a smile.
“Yes, ma'am.”
“I saw what happened.”
Richard stiffened.
“The employee behaved inappropriately.”
The woman stared.
“You hit her.”
Richard's expression changed.
“She was being disrespectful.”
The woman shook her head.
“That doesn't justify striking an employee.”
Richard said nothing.
She continued.
“I recorded part of the incident.”
Richard felt his stomach drop.
The woman looked toward the restaurant's security cameras.
“And I'm sure your cameras recorded the rest.”
Richard swallowed.

For the first time, he realized that the problem wasn't simply losing a wealthy customer.
He had crossed a line that could cost him his career.
