Chapter 7 - THE HOUSE OF CARDS FALLS

The ballroom erupted into chaos. Elite guests, socialites, and politicians began murmuring loudly, realizing they were witnessing the real-time destruction of one of New York's oldest families.
Eleanor lunged forward, her pristine image shattered. "You can't do this! That is our legacy! You tricked him!"
"I didn't trick anyone, Eleanor," Clara said, her voice cutting through the noise. "I simply protected myself from a family of parasites. You planned to steal my money to pay off the Russian mob for Felix. I have the encrypted messages. I have the offshore transaction attempts."
At the mention of the Russian mob, several guests gasped and physically stepped back from the Sterling-Hayes family.
Victoria turned to the sheriff's deputies. "Officers, you have the warrants?"
The lead deputy stepped forward, a stern, unyielding presence. "We do, ma'am." He looked at Julian. "Julian Sterling-Hayes, you are under arrest for assault and battery. Furthermore, you are being held for questioning regarding federal wire fraud and conspiracy to commit embezzlement in connection with Felix Sterling-Hayes."
Julian’s knees buckled. If his groomsmen hadn't been standing directly behind him, he would have collapsed onto the floor. "No, no, no," he muttered, shaking his head wildly. "Clara, please. I love you. It was a moment of madness. Don't do this."
Clara looked down at the man she had almost given her life to. She felt no pity, no sorrow. Only the cold, sterile satisfaction of justice.

"You never loved me, Julian," Clara said quietly, though in the silence, her words carried. "You loved my bank accounts. You just didn't realize that my money comes with teeth."
The deputy grabbed Julian’s arm, twisting it behind his back with practiced efficiency. The sharp, metallic click of handcuffs echoing in the ballroom was the final, definitive sound of the Sterling-Hayes empire crumbling to dust.
