Chapter 10 - The Queen of Manhattan

One year later.

The grand ballroom of the Hargrove Hotel was illuminated by crystal chandeliers, filled with soft classical violin music, and decorated with thousands of white orchids. Over three hundred prominent guests—diplomats, business leaders, and reformed community figures—gathered to celebrate the annual gala of the newly formed Reyes-Volkov Healthcare Foundation.

Standing near the grand staircase in a breathtaking white silk gown, I watched my brother Marco talking happily with a group of engineering students from Columbia University, where his full college scholarship had just been finalized. Nearby, my mother—now fully recovered from her respiratory illness thanks to world-class treatment—sat laughing alongside Elena Volkov, both of them enjoying champagne.

Richard, my former restaurant manager at the Hargrove Hotel, approached me carrying a tray of drinks. He looked nervous, his hands shaking slightly as he bowed his head.

"Ms. Reyes... I mean, Mrs. Volkov," Richard stammered politely. "Can I offer you some champagne?"

I smiled gently, taking a glass from his tray. "Thank you, Richard. You don't need to be nervous. You taught me how to balance three trays at once—I haven't forgotten that."

Richard wiped a line of sweat from his forehead, looking deeply relieved. "You're a class act, Sofia. Always have been."

A pair of strong arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind. I leaned back against Damian’s chest, smelling his familiar scent of cedarwood and costly cologne.

"Are you happy, my queen?" Damian whispered into my ear, resting his chin on my shoulder.

"More than happy," I murmured, turning around in his arms to look up into his gray eyes, which were now filled with warmth, love, and contentment. "We rebuilt my mother’s life, sent Marco to college, and turned your family's empire into something that actually helps people."

"And what about you?" Damian asked softly, touching my cheek with his thumb. "What does the girl who stopped a slap in this very ballroom want for herself?"

I looked into his eyes, remembering the night my hands had stopped Cassandra Vale’s diamond-covered wrist, changing my destiny forever.

"I already have everything I ever wanted," I said softly.

Damian smiled—a genuine, radiant smile—and lowered his lips to mine, kissing me passionately in the center of the ballroom. The crowd burst into warm applause, celebrating a love story that had begun with a simple act of courage by a waitress who refused to let poverty break her spirit.

From that night forward, Sofia Reyes was no longer invisible. She was the undisputed Queen of Manhattan, standing side-by-side with the man who adored her, proving to the world that true dignity is something money can never buy, and power can never destroy.
