Chapter 9 - The Summit of Kings

The annual Syndicate Summit was held inside a subterranean marble amphitheater beneath a historic bank building in Wall Street. Twelve crime bosses from across the country sat around a massive circular table, guarded by fifty elite enforcers.

Dmitri Volkov sat near the head of the table, looking triumphant as he addressed the council members.

"Damian Volkov is unfit to lead!" Dmitri declared loudly, slamming his fist onto the mahogany surface. "He has brought shame to our tradition by harboring a low-class servant girl, and worse—his mother ordered the execution of my brother, Don Alexander Volkov!"

Murmurs of shock and anger rippled through the older council members.

"Do you have proof of these claims, Dmitri?" the senior council chairman, an old Italian boss named Falcone, asked sternly.

"I have the financial records of the hitmen!" Dmitri sneered, tossing a drive onto the table. "I demand an immediate vote to strip Damian of his title and execute Elena Volkov according to the ancient laws!"

The heavy steel doors at the rear of the amphitheater groaned open.

Damian walked down the stone steps, wearing an immaculate black tuxedo. And walking right beside him, holding her head high in an emerald green gown that radiated elegance and power, was me.

"You're too late, Uncle," Damian’s voice boomed across the marble hall.

Dmitri laughed mockingly. "Late? I have the council's vote, nephew! You brought your little servant girl to your own execution!"

"Sofia Reyes is not a servant," Damian said coldly, stepping up to the center of the table. "She is the woman who uncovered your treason."

I stepped forward, holding a silver briefcase. I opened it, placing a stack of authenticated federal documents directly in front of Chairman Falcone.

"These are the frozen bank accounts of the Panama shell company used to finance Dmitri’s private mercenary army," I announced, my voice steady and commanding. "And these are the audio files recorded forty-eight hours ago by the Port Authority, proving that Dmitri Volkov was planning to assassinate every single council member in this room once he took control of the Syndicate."

Chairman Falcone picked up the documents, his face turning dark with rage as he read through them.

Dmitri’s smile vanished. He backed away, reaching for his coat pocket. "This is a setup! The girl is lying!"

"Search him!" Falcone ordered sharply.

Four heavy enforcers tackled Dmitri to the floor, pulling a remote detonator from his jacket—a detonator linked to explosives planted around the amphitheater’s emergency exits.

The council members stood up in absolute fury.

"Treason!" Falcone roared. "Dmitri Volkov has betrayed the council!"

Damian stood over his kneeling uncle, looking down at him with cold finality. "Take him away. He will spend the rest of his life in a maximum-security black site in Siberia."

As Dmitri was dragged out screaming and cursing, the council members turned toward Damian and bowed their heads in respect. Chairman Falcone walked over, looking at me with deep appreciation.

"You have a remarkable woman by your side, Damian," Falcone said smoothly. "She saved the Volkov empire today."

Damian wrapped his arm securely around my waist, pulling me close to his side. "She didn't just save it, Falcone. She rules it with me."
