Chapter 15 - The Dashcam Video No One Saw

The guest house door was ajar, swaying slightly in the damp wind. Inside, the antique radio sat on a glass coffee table, illuminated by a single glowing tablet screen.
There was no intruder inside. Only the recording playing on a loop.
Beside the tablet lay an unmarked thumb drive, wrapped in a strip of yellow caution tape from Rachel’s crash site two years ago.
Marcus swept the rooms, weapon drawn, before giving the all-clear. "Perimeter fence was cut behind the boathouse, Mr. Vance. They bypassed the alarms with an override master key."
Arthur ignored the property breach. His eyes were locked on the thumb drive. He inserted it into Marcus’s encrypted military laptop.
A video file appeared: *ROUTE_9_MILEPOST44_UNREDACTED.mp4*.
The screen flickered. It was dashcam footage from a heavy logging truck that had been traveling two hundred yards behind Rachel’s Mercedes on the night of the fatal crash.
The official police report had stated that Rachel lost control in the rain, skidded across the median, and plunged into the ravine. The local sheriff had ruled it an accidental hydroplane incident exacerbated by alcohol—a fabricated smear Daniel had paid five hundred thousand dollars to plant in the press.
The unedited video told a blood-curdling truth.
On the screen, Rachel’s headlights were clearly visible. She wasn't speeding; she was being pursued. Two black SUVs were boxing her in, bumping her rear bumper repeatedly.
Then, the camera caught something that made Arthur’s heart freeze.
As Rachel’s car was violently forced off the asphalt and down the rocky embankment, the lead SUV pulled over. A tall, slender woman stepped out into the pouring rain. She walked to the edge of the cliff to watch the explosion.
The lightning flashed violently on screen.
The woman was not Victoria.
She was young, barely in her early twenties, with striking green eyes, dark hair, and the distinct, unmistakable jawline of the Vance family.
Beside Arthur, Lily gasped, clutching her grandfather’s arm. "Grandpa... that’s Chloe."
Chloe Vance. Julian’s daughter. Lily’s cousin. The quiet, Ivy League law student who had spent the last two years comforting Lily, bringing her hot tea, and helping Arthur organize Rachel’s memorial foundations.

She hadn't just watched Rachel die. She had driven the pursuit vehicle.
