Chapter 3 : Shadows in the Penthouse

Two weeks later, the world outside believed Elena and Adrian had retreated to lick their wounds. The media was having a field day with the "High Society Scandal of the Decade," playing the leaked audio of Vanessa's betrayal on endless loops. But inside the walls of Adrian’s fortified, ultra-secure penthouse, a war room had been born.

Elena sat at the massive glass dining table, surrounded by glowing holographic displays and scattered financial reports. The bruising on her arms had faded to a dull yellow, but the fierce fire in her eyes burned brighter than ever. She wasn't just a survivor; she was an architect of destruction.

"Julian is bleeding capital from his European shipping lines," Elena pointed out, tapping a manicured fingernail against a red graph on her tablet. She looked across the table at Adrian, who was pacing like a caged panther. "If we freeze his assets in the Mediterranean by buying out his secondary suppliers, his entire logistics network collapses within forty-eight hours. He’ll be desperate."

Adrian stopped pacing and stared at his wife. The sight of her—pregnant, radiant, and ruthlessly dismantling their enemy’s financial empire—sent a jolt of fierce pride through his chest. He walked over, leaning over her chair to press a kiss to the crown of her head.

"You are terrifyingly brilliant, Mrs. Vance," he murmured against her hair.

"He tried to kill my baby, Adrian," Elena replied, her voice dropping to a deadly whisper. "I’m going to take everything he has. His money, his reputation, his legacy."

"And I will hand it all to you on a silver platter," Adrian vowed, his eyes flashing with lethal intent.

Marcus entered the room, his face an unreadable mask of stone. "We have a situation. One of our surveillance drones over Julian's estate just caught a thermal anomaly. He's moving his private security team. Heavily armed. But they aren't heading to the airport."

Adrian straightened up, his instincts flaring. "Where are they heading?"

"Here," Marcus said grimly. "They're attempting a blackout raid on the penthouse. They’ve managed to slice through the city’s grid. We have exactly four minutes before they hit the lobby."

Elena’s heart slammed against her ribs. The penthouse was a fortress, but Julian was sending an army.

"Lock down the elevators. Engage the titanium blast shields on all windows," Adrian ordered, his voice echoing with absolute authority. He reached under the glass table, his hand finding the biometric scanner hidden beneath. A quiet click resonated through the room, and a hidden panel in the wall slid open, revealing an arsenal of high-tech weaponry.

Adrian pulled a sleek, matte-black handgun from the rack, checking the chamber with fluid, practiced precision. He handed a smaller, compact weapon to Elena. She took it without shaking. She had trained for this. She had promised herself she would never be a victim again.

Suddenly, the penthouse plunged into pitch-black darkness. The hum of the city below vanished as the power grid was severed.

Red emergency lights flickered to life, casting eerie, bloody shadows across the opulent furniture. The silence in the room was deafening, broken only by the distant, heavy thud of the lobby doors being breached far below.

"Stay behind me," Adrian ordered, his body positioning itself as a human shield between Elena and the heavy double doors of the penthouse.
