Chapter 20 - THE FINAL FALL (CLIFFHANGER)

Twelve hours later, dawn broke over Manhattan in clear, radiant hues of gold and amber. The nightmare was officially dismantled. Federal authorities had secured the Castiglione vault, seizing fifty million dollars in illegal assets and establishing a permanent, impenetrable trust for Lily’s future. Julian Castiglione was under federal indictment for racketeering, conspiracy, and murder.
Daniel sat on a bench in the private garden of the Grace Vance Memorial Music Academy, holding a warm cup of tea. Across the lawn, Lily was chasing butterflies with Maya, her joyful laughter floating through the crisp morning air like windchimes.
Detective Miller walked across the grass, holding a confidential dossier stamped with Department of Justice seals.
"Julian is going away for the rest of his natural life, Daniel," Miller said, taking a seat beside him. "The forensic teams recovered Evelyn's digital records. It's clean. Grace’s name is cleared. The school is protected."
"Thank you, Miller," Daniel murmured, watching his daughter run freely. "I can finally give her a normal childhood."
Miller looked down at the dossier in his hands, his expression suddenly darkening into an unsettled grimace.
"What is it?" Daniel asked, sensing the shift in the air.
"There's... something else, Daniel," Miller said slowly, lowering his voice. "During the raid on Julian’s private estate this morning, we found the passenger manifests for his charter flights over the past six months."
"And?"
"The night Lily was pushed off the balcony... Julian wasn't in the city. He was in London," Miller stated, his eyes locking onto Daniel with deep, chilling dread. "He didn't order Evelyn to push Lily that night. Someone else sent the text message to Evelyn’s private phone."
Daniel's heart stopped. "What are you saying?"
Miller opened the folder, revealing an unredacted coroner’s report from five years ago—the night Grace supposedly died. Attached was a glossy surveillance photo taken just forty-eight hours ago at a private terminal in Zurich.
Walking down the stairs of a private jet, alive, uninjured, and wearing Grace’s silver wedding band, was a woman whose face was impossible to mistake.

At that exact moment, Lily stopped running across the lawn. She turned toward the dark tree line behind the garden fence, her small smile freezing into sheer, wide-eyed terror as a music box in the bushes began playing the opening notes of *Nocturne in D Minor*.
"Daddy..." Lily whispered, pointing a trembling finger toward the shadows. "Mommy is standing by the gate."
