Chapter 19 - THE CONCERT OF TRUTH

As the music swelled into its dramatic crescendos, the acoustic monitors across the theater glowed green. Julian’s eyes widened with manic greed as an iron trapdoor in the stage floor slowly began to hiss open, revealing a steel safe embedded in the concrete.

"Faster!" Julian barked, stepping toward the opening vault, momentarily lowering his weapon from Lily’s head. "Play the third movement!"

"Now, Lily!" Daniel roared.

Instead of hitting the next chord, Lily threw her entire weight against the brass release valve beneath the organ console—*The Red Door*.

A blinding geyser of superheated industrial steam blasted from the brass relief valve directly into the faces of Julian’s armed operatives. The men shrieked in agony, dropping their weapons as the searing cloud engulfed the stage.

Daniel tackled Julian Castiglione, slamming the billionaire against the heavy wooden banister of the stage. The revolver fired wildly into the ceiling, raining down plaster and chandeliers. Julian snarled, his refined demeanor shattering into animalistic rage as he threw Daniel off him and drew a serrated combat knife from his boot.

"I will butcher you both!" Julian screamed, lunging through the blinding steam.

Daniel scrambled across the polished stage, grabbing a heavy brass microphone stand. As Julian leaped forward, Daniel swung the metal pole with every ounce of fatherly fury coiled in his body, striking Julian across the temple with a sickening crack.

Julian staggered backward, blood spurting from his brow, his knife clattering away into the open vault below.

Sirens wailed in the distance. Blue and red flashing lights illuminated the grand stained-glass windows of the Philharmonic Hall. Detective Miller and a dozen tactical SWAT officers breached the rear doors, weapons raised.

"Drop your weapons! Federal agents!" Miller’s voice echoed across the theater.

Julian, dazed and bleeding, slumped to his knees as tactical officers swarmed the stage, pinning his arms behind his back. Daniel ran to Lily, scooping her into his arms, burying his face in her hair as Maya was untied by paramedics.

"You're safe, Lily. It's over. It's finally over," Daniel wept openly, rocking his daughter back and forth on the smoke-filled stage.

Lily looked up at the towering organ pipes, smiling through her tears. "Mommy heard the song, Daddy. She heard it."
