Chapter 7 - THE CABIN Nathan waited beside the fireplace.
“You look like hell.”
Daniel stared at him.
“You killed my wife.”
Nathan smiled faintly.
“Caroline killed herself by refusing to stop.”
Daniel wanted to cross the room.
Instead he remained still.
“Why?”
“Money.”
Nathan laughed.
“What answer were you expecting?”
Daniel’s hands tightened.
Nathan continued.
“Your wife was clever. Too clever.”
He admitted arranging the brake failure.
He admitted using Victoria.
He admitted planning to seize Lily’s trust.
Every word transmitted through the concealed microphone Daniel wore.
Then Nathan realized.
He looked at Daniel’s shirt.
His expression changed.
“You’re wired.”
Daniel stepped backward.
Police entered.
Nathan reached toward his waistband.
“Don’t!”
Reed’s voice filled the cabin.
Nathan froze.
Seconds later he was on the floor in handcuffs.
Daniel stood over him.
He could have felt victory.
Instead he thought of Caroline.
Justice could punish the man who killed her.
It could never return the woman he lost.
