Chapter 18 - THE INFILTRATION

The plan was madness, but Daniel had no choice. At 11:00 PM, the storm clouds parted, revealing a cold, razor-sharp crescent moon above the wealthy enclave of Greenwich, Connecticut. Sterling’s mansion loomed like a fortress behind twelve-foot wrought-iron gates, surrounded by infrared sensors and private armed patrols.
Marcus had arranged for Lily to be hidden with a retired federal marshal who owed him his life—a safehouse so deep off the grid it didn't exist on any map. For the first time in forty-eight hours, Daniel knew his daughter was safe. Now, it was time to hunt.
Dressed in dark civilian clothes, Daniel scaled the perimeter wall using the overhanging branch of a centuries-old weeping willow. He dropped silently onto the manicured turf, avoiding the sweep of the exterior halogen floodlights.
Using Marcus’s blueprint of the estate, Daniel bypassed the ground-floor security by slipping through the subterranean ventilation shaft that led to the wine cellar—the exact architectural twin of Vanessa's lakehouse.
The air in the basement was frigid, smelling of damp limestone and aged oak. Daniel moved like a ghost, his combat blade drawn. He slipped past two private guards stationed outside the reinforced steel door marked *Private Archive*.
With surgical precision, Daniel struck from the shadows—disabling both guards with non-lethal, high-impact strikes before they could touch their alarm fobs. Using the master override codes Marcus had pieced together from Sterling's old court logs, Daniel entered the sequence: 0-9-1-4-L-I-L-Y.
The vault hissed open.

Inside was a pristine, white-walled sanctuary lined with safe deposit boxes, bank servers, and a massive mahogany desk. Sitting behind that desk, an unlit cigar between his fingers, was Judge Harrison Sterling himself.
He wasn't surprised. He had been waiting.
