Chapter 8 - A New Empire

By the following week, the dust storm in Boston’s high society had settled into a grudging acceptance. The Moretti family empire didn't collapse without the Barrett alliance; instead, we pivoted, securing our ports through sheer strength rather than political marriage.

On a crisp Saturday afternoon, I took Elena and the boys down to the Public Garden for a walk.

The autumn leaves were turning a brilliant shade of gold, crunching softly beneath our boots as we strolled past the Swan Boats. Leo, Dante, Marco, and Mateo raced ahead, chasing a flock of pigeons that scattered noisily into the crisp New England air.

Elena walked beside me, her hand safely tucked inside mine. On her ring finger, the heavy gold Moretti signet ring caught the afternoon sunlight, glowing with authority and history.

"Are you ever going to miss the quiet life in Chicago?" I asked softly, glancing down at her.

She smiled, leaning her head against my shoulder as we walked. "Chicago was safe, Dominic. But it was just a hiding place. This... this is home."

"It's about to get a lot crazier," I warned her with a smirk. "My uncles are already planning their first birthday party next month. They want to rent out Fenway Park."

Elena laughed, the sound ringing bright and clear over the chatter of our four sons, who were now trying to climb the bronze statues of the Make Way for Ducklings ducklings.

"Let them," she said, squeezing my hand tightly. "We can handle anything. We're Morettis."

I looked ahead at our four boys, watching them run, laugh, and argue with identical stubbornness and unmatched spirit. The bloodline was secure, the empire was unbreakable, and my heart was finally whole.
