Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Execution

The board of directors of Vance Global Enterprises sat in suffocating silence inside the sixty-fifth-floor boardroom.

Twenty of the most powerful corporate executives in North America stared down at the polished mahogany table.

At the far end of the room sat three board members who had been secret loyalists to the Sterling family for years.

Among them was Harold Finch, the company’s chief financial officer, who was furiously shredding documents on his tablet.

The massive double doors swung open, and the room instantly stood to attention as Marcus Vance walked in.

Behind Marcus walked Clara Hayes, her gaze sharp, focused, and missing nothing.

Marcus took his seat at the head of the long table, while Clara sat directly to his right in the co-chairman’s leather seat.

Harold Finch cleared his throat nervously, adjusting his gold-rimmed spectacles with trembling fingers.

“Marcus… while we are all relieved that Mrs. Evelyn Vance is unharmed… this sudden succession is completely irregular,” Finch protested.

“This young woman has zero corporate experience! She was a domestic cleaner twenty-four hours ago!”

“Transferring forty-nine percent of our voting shares to an unqualified outsider will trigger an immediate collapse of our defense contracts!”

Several other Sterling loyalists nodded vigorously in agreement, murmuring their support for Finch’s position.

Marcus did not raise his voice; he simply leaned back in his leather chair and tapped his pen against the table once.

“Harold,” Marcus said, his tone razor-sharp. “Did you review the documents uploaded to your tablet ten minutes ago?”

Finch blinked, his eyes darting down to the encrypted file that had just appeared on his screen.

As Finch read the first few lines, the color completely drained from his fleshy face.

“This… this is impossible…” Finch stammered, his spectacles slipping down his sweat-covered nose.

“Those are the offshore transaction logs from your private account in Zurich, Harold,” Clara spoke up, her voice ringing clear and steady through the quiet room.

Every board member snapped their attention toward the young woman at the head of the table.

“On June fourteenth, you authorized a three-million-dollar wire transfer from our research budget to a dummy corporation in Panama,” Clara continued coldly.

“That dummy corporation purchased the exact chemical precursors used to synthesize the potassium cyanide found in Mrs. Vance’s tea.”

The boardroom erupted into stunned shouts and gasps of pure fury.

Two board members sitting near Finch immediately shoved their chairs away from him as if he were radioactive.

“You signed the purchase order yourself, Mr. Finch,” Clara said, leaning forward with her hands resting flat on the mahogany.

“You thought you could bury the invoice beneath the aerospace telemetry budget because nobody ever checks Arthur Hayes’s old research ledger.”

“Well, I checked it. My father taught me how to read double-entry ledgers before I was ten years old.”

Finch began hyperventilating, loosening his silk tie as the walls of the boardroom seemed to close in on him.

“Marcus… I was threatened! Victoria told me she would destroy my family if I didn't comply!” Finch pleaded, his voice cracking.

Marcus did not spare him an ounce of mercy.

He pressed an intercom button built into the center of the table.

“Security. Enter the boardroom and escort Mr. Finch to the lobby where the Department of Justice is waiting.”

The doors opened instantly, and two armed federal agents stepped into the room, snapping handcuffs around Finch’s wrists before dragging him out of sight.

The remaining board members sat in petrified silence, nobody daring to make a sound or challenge Clara’s authority.

Marcus turned toward the assembly of shaken executives.

“Is there anyone else in this room who wishes to question Miss Hayes’s qualifications to lead this company?” Marcus asked coldly.

Not a single hand was raised; every head bowed in complete submission to the new regime.

Marcus then turned his attention back to Clara, a rare look of genuine pride illuminating his sharp features.

“The floor is yours, Madam Chairman,” Marcus said quietly.

Clara stood up, looking down the length of the massive table with absolute composure.

“Starting today, Vance Global will return to my father’s founding principles,” Clara declared, her voice resonating with power.

“Every defense contract linked to the Sterling family is terminated immediately.”

“We will invest five billion dollars into pediatric cancer research and clean aerospace technology over the next quarter.”

“And if anyone in this room ever attempts to compromise the safety of our workers or our ethics again…”

Clara paused, her emerald eyes locking onto each executive one by one.

“I will personally ensure you leave this building in handcuffs just like Harold Finch.”

May you like

The remaining board members stood up as one, offering Clara a standing ovation that shook the glass walls of the skyscraper.

The era of corruption had been cleanly executed, and the true heir was in absolute command.
