Chapter 15 - Vanessa Sends One Final Apology

Vanessa sent Emily a letter six months later.
No flowers.
No gift.
Just three pages.
She admitted the bracelet plan.
Admitted she knew Emily was Daniel’s sister before the wedding.
Admitted she had resented the possibility that Emily could affect the
family future she believed she was marrying into.
She also admitted something smaller.
“I liked making you feel powerless.”
Emily read that sentence twice.
It was the only part that felt completely honest.
Vanessa wrote that therapy had forced her to confront how often she
confused status with worth.
Emily did not reply.
Not yet.
Forgiveness was not a deadline.
The apology did not restore the wedding.
It did not erase the slap.
It did not make Margaret trustworthy.
But Emily kept the letter.
Not as proof.
