Chapter 14 - Emily Takes Her Board Seat
Months later, Emily accepted a nonexecutive seat connected to her trust
interest.
She kept her hotel job part-time while finishing school.
Board members found that confusing.
Emily enjoyed that.
At her first meeting, she asked why employee retention at two properties
had fallen.
The room expected her to ask about the Redmont sale.
She already had the documents.
She wanted to know why housekeepers were quitting.
Daniel looked across the table and smiled.
Afterward, he said:
“Dad would be proud.”
Emily stopped him.
“Maybe.”
Daniel nodded.
“Right. Maybe.”
They were both learning not to make Richard’s memory speak for them.
Emily did not become a corporate princess.
Daniel did not become her guardian.
They became siblings.
