Chapter 21 - The Secret Vault Beneath the Vanity
The next morning, armed with a court-ordered search warrant obtained through evidence of Victoria’s midnight trespass, Daniel, accompanied by his attorney and a forensic investigator, entered Victoria’s locked dressing suite in the east wing of the estate.
The room smelled of stale lavender and expensive perfume. Rows of designer shoes, fur coats, and untouched jewelry cases lined the expansive walk-in closets.
"Check the floorboards near the built-in vanity," Daniel directed the investigator. "Victoria always kept personal documents out of the central safe."
The investigator used an acoustic scanner along the marble baseboards. Near the ornate gilded mirror, a hollow click resonated. With a specialized pry tool, the technician lifted a hidden panel seamlessly cut into the mahogany floor.
Inside lay a fireproof lockbox.
Daniel took the master key found on Victoria’s confiscated keychain and turned the lock. The lid popped open.
Inside were not birth certificates or paternity tests.
Inside were three burner cell phones, a digital ledger, and several encrypted thumb drives. But what caught Daniel’s attention was a stack of legal contracts dated four years prior—contracts with an offshore trust in the Cayman Islands.
Daniel flipped through the pages, his eyes widening in horror. Victoria had been embezzling millions from the Sterling Family Trust, funneling it through a shell corporation registered under the name of Julian Ross—Victoria’s former fiancé, a man who had supposedly disappeared from high society six years ago after a fraud scandal.
The notes scribbled in Victoria’s distinct handwriting beside the financial ledgers detailed an unthinkable scheme: *Once full custody is liquidated and Daniel pays the lump-sum settlement, relocation to Zurich with Julian. Lily to be placed in Swiss boarding facility permanently.*

Victoria had never wanted Lily. She had weaponized Lily’s custody solely to extort a fifty-million-dollar divorce payout to finance an illegal escape with her fugitive lover.
