Chapter 6 - The Digital Vault

While Special Agent Miller detained Elisa downstairs for formal interrogation, Special Agent Vance and I sat in Dr. Sarah’s office reviewing the live tactical feed coming from the federal raid on Marcus’s Lake Forest mansion.

On the encrypted tablet screen, federal agents in tactical gear were streaming through the vaulted hallways of the pristine estate, clearing rooms, and securing digital servers.

“We’ve breached the primary home office server,” reported a tactical tech specialist through the encrypted comms channel. “Executing the decryption keys provided by the cyber-crimes division now. Stand by.”

Ten seconds later, a secondary screen on the tablet lit up with a cascading waterfall of green code.

“Got it,” the specialist said. “We are looking at an encrypted partition hidden deep within Marcus’s primary workstation. Downloading files now... Agent Vance, you’re going to want to see this.”

“Put it on the main monitor,” Vance commanded.

The office monitor flickered, and a hidden folder directory appeared on the screen. It was labeled simply: “Project_Aegis_Logs.”

Inside the folder were hundreds of high-definition digital video files, surveillance logs, and encrypted chat transcripts. Marcus hadn't just been abusing Sophia in the privacy of her bedroom—he had been recording the abuse, archiving it on a encrypted cloud server, and trading digital access on dark-web forums tied to corporate extortion rings.

My stomach heaved. The brother I had grown up with, the man who had built a glittering empire of corporate security, was nothing more than a monster hiding behind a veneer of wealth.

“That sick bastard,” Agent Vance muttered, slamming his fist onto the desk. “He wasn't just abusing his own daughter; he was using her as leverage within an underground syndicate of corporate blackmail.”

“Can you lock down all his corporate accounts?” I asked, my voice trembling with adrenaline.

“Everything is frozen as of three minutes ago,” Vance replied firmly. “His bank accounts in the Cayman Islands, his corporate assets in the Loop, his personal investments—every single digital dollar he owns has been seized under federal asset forfeiture laws.”

At that exact moment, Special Agent Miller walked back into the office, holding a secure encrypted phone.

“We just intercepted an incoming call on Marcus’s personal cell phone from his corporate pilot,” Miller announced. “Marcus is currently on the top floor of his Loop office tower, attempting to wipe his primary enterprise servers and board a private helicopter out of Midway Airport to Zurich. Local units have already locked down the helipad.”

“Let’s go,” I said, grabbing my coat. “It’s time to end this.”
